Today, in Rips page of tips he says "one thing a plant based diet lacks is B12" yet in the quiz today it says it's part of a plant based diet. Huh? Which is right????????

Right. We're saying B12 is an important part of a plant-based diet and highlighting the need to get it in some supplemented form.

Didn't I read somewhere (FAQ's?)that there's more than the RDA of B12 in a cup of Total or other fortified cereals? I'd rather "supplement" my diet by adding a cup of cereal than by taking a daily supplement in the form of a vitamin.

What is the real skinny on the B-12 in button mushrooms?

Check your plant milk--nearly all soymilks are fortified and some rice milks, etc. I think my soymilk has 50% of the DV in one serving? At work, so I can't check right now. All multivitamins have it too. I take Deva Vegan 1-a-day, and then I don't worry about it.

VeganRecipeGuy, you might be interested in Jack Norris's site. He's an RD and co-founder of Vegan Outreach. He's written what he calls "a novel" on B12 and compiles every research paper and study on any vegan topic he can get his hands on. He says mushrooms, sea vegetables, and other food sources are not reliable for various reasons. Anyway, check him out here, if you want to know more than you ever wanted to know. http://jacknorrisrd.com/

I should have included the link to VeganHealth.org as well. That's where Jack Norris posts his articles (though his blog is also worth subscribing to and points to updates). http://www.veganhealth.org/
