Hi all! I'm new here and to veganism. I've been vegetarian for 6 years and always liked the idea of being vegan, but each time I've tried, cheese did me in.

This time, I've started and it's been easy. OK, so it's only been 5 days, but I don't crave cheese at all...and that's a biggie.

I guess it's meant to be, because this time I found the 21-Day Kickstart. I'm going to do it this time...I just know it.

Anyone else here from New Jersey?

Hi Shell!

Not from Jersey, yet want to welcome you and offer encouraging words!

Congratulations on the cheese success, no cravings even after 6 days? Wow! It's amazing how that loop of the dairy draw can be more powerful than we thought. It can be helpful to read about the opiate qualities of it to help us understand what we may be dealing with. But sounds like you're doing just fine!

I too was veggie forever before sticking with kicking the dairy. I had come and gone from it on several tries, so I understand the switch. Again, being armed with knowledge and support can make all the difference. As well as being passionate about the change.

OK, others in Jersey for Shell?

Hi, Shell! Ah, New Jersey... the Garden State! I'm in the lesser known, "South Jersey." Really missing the fresh produce from our CSA in the depths of winter, but love knowing that the farmers are hard at work, buying seeds and planning for the upcoming season. Still, there's lots of winter greens and root veggies at the market, so I'm off to stock up for the weekend and next week.

I call your challenge "the siren song of the cheese." When I'm checking out at the grocers, I often hear the cashier say, "Are you vegan? I would be, but I can't give up cheese." So many of the youngsters that operate the registers are vegetarian, which is awesome. It was easy for me to give up... hubby is lactose intolerant, so no dairy comes into the house. After some time, I realized that I had lost whatever ability I had (or not!) to digest dairy myself, so no dairy -- including cheese -- for us! Truly, if you can just stay away for a few weeks, you'll be surprised by how awful you feel after indulging what you think is a craving, or a harmless splurge. Just takes some patience.

Good luck to you! (Actually, you don't need luck when you have a plan, but you know what I mean...) Wink

Thanks Lani and Aviva. I really am amazed at how easy it seems this time. I know if I can make it a few weeks I'll be home free. When I gave up meat, I never looked back.

Good luck, Shell.

Probably somebody has mentioned the Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook by Jo Stepaniak, but I love that book! So many great alternatives for cheezy sauces, spreads, even block cheezes.

Eating dairy wreaked havoc on my sinuses and allergies, so once I stopped I was way over it! But my husband was a hardcore cheese addict and the book really helped.

Smile
