Any ideas for snacks to take to a nonveg party?
Posted Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 2:28 PM
I am the only veg I know in my area. I like to go to gatherings with friends and I want to bring something vegan that would appeal to nonvegans too. This week, I am going to a football party and I go to card partys sometimes too. Any suggestions?

Toasted Chickpeas (Garbonzo Beans) 3 Cans of Chickpeas - Drained and rinsed 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder 3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
Mix your spices and soy sauce in a large ziplock bag until the spices disolve. Add your chickpeas to the bag and toss until evenly coated. Bake at 350F until they reach your desired level of crunch. I like them crunchy, the wife likes them lightly toasted. I will often take my baja blackbean dip. You can find that on my recipe site. It is soooo good, my omnivorous friends always comment when it is absent.

If you haven't tried Gardein Buffalo Wings, they are very good, even my omnivore friends like them. The toasted garbanzo beans are also great. Potato skins with hummus or refried beans and salsa.

Any ideas for snacks to take to a nonveg party?

I posted this recipe on another topic area, but this is such a great recipe that I thought I'd suggest it again. Whenever I serve it, it gets eaten right away. It's so good it's almost addictive: 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained 1 can whole kernel corn, rinsed and drained Salsa, 15 - 16 ounces Mix all of the above together and chill in the fridge. Add fresh chopped cilantro, if you'd like. Serve with tortilla chips, or those big Fritos Scoop chips.

At movie and game parties, I make a TON of kettle corn (I can tell you how to make it if you like). Also, hummus and veggies or pita to dip; chips and salsa (there are lots of baked chips on the market, or you can bake your own); fruit kebabs... Freshly baked bread is always a hit, too.

I do make my popcorn with a teaspoon of oil (I'll try to include a picture of the pot I use), but you can make it on the stove in any deep pot with a lid. Just the second it starts popping, add 2-4 tablespoons of sugar and quickly put the lid back on, then make sure to shake or stir it constantly until it's popped. Dump it out and salt it, and you'll LOVE it. People seriously cannot stop eating it.

Mmm Serene! I'm going to make that the next time I make popcorn. Half tempted to go do it right now!

What I am wondering though is how long do you cook them for toasty and how long for crunchy? I know this might seem like a dumb question, but I can see myself completely burning an ruining them, haha.
