Turmeric
Posted Monday, September 20, 2010 at 7:03 AM
I have been reading so much lately about turmeric and all the health benefits of using it daily. It's suppose to be good for blood pressure, cholesterol, alzheimer prevention. Supposedly also inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It's touted as an anti-inflammatory. I've decided to try and incorporate some into my daily diet. Anyone have any experience? Or opinions? Pro or con. Thanks,

Anecdotally, I've only heard and seen good things. It certainly can't hurt.

Marge - have you noticed any positive results? Any side effects? And how long have you been supplementing? I would also be interested to know what information led you to decide to supplement. Thanks,

we use it here and there as recipes call for it. no specific "mandate" for it, just that some recipes call for it and we like those recipes so... --Deb

Turmeric has tons of benefits according to this article: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=78 I don't think it has a lot of flavor (just tons of color!) so whenever I make rice or other whole grain, I add some turmeric. Also you can use it in salad dressings, soups, and curries, of course. Black pepper increases its effect so I also add a little pepper along with the turmeric as well.

I've been taking it for 5 years at least, because of the anti-inflammatory properties. If there's any side effects I'm not aware of them. Other than it can stain your fingers & clothes yellow. That is why I prefer caplets over the spice. Although I do use the spice when I make Indian food.
