Everyone will go through a different path. "Detoxing" is a bit of a misnomer. Although some books will tell you that you can significantly detox in a few days or weeks, the persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals in your body are likely to take years to eliminate. However, if you lose weight too fast, your liver (detox central) can be flooded with wastes to eliminate. This is because most of the toxins in your body are stored in your fat. So it's better to lose weight gradually, a pound or two at a time. Also, whole foods have the phytochemicals (plant-based nutrients) to support your body as it deals with a new diet and dissolving fat. So eat your fill of whole grains, beans, potatoes, fruits, and vegetables. A wide variety of foods supplies you with maximum nutrients. Another strategy to consider is to emphasize organic foods so you are not taking in more manmade chemicals while you are trying to get rid of those already stored. Your body's processes may take a few days or weeks to adjust to a healthier diet. The rewards for you will be well worth the initial wait.
