Pres Clinton

Pres Clinton was on Letterman last night. He said he had the heart problems.. then read, talked to docs.. and decided to follow a plant based diet.
He feels great and thought he should have done it years ago.

What I didn't understand was he said.. he follows a plant based diet and takes protein supplements. why??? he doesn't like beans???

he also said after a person follows a plant based diet for about 8 months studies have shown that the body starts healing itself.. calcium deposits. and chloresterol blockages break up.. really?

So here is a man with the very best medical advice available to him; he chose a vegan diet.

I suppose some folks don't like or have problems with beans. Certain digestive issues have trouble with the amount of fiber involved. I know that with things like IBS et al, the amount of fiber and what type (soluble/insoluble) is really crucial.

... and takes protein supplements

I hope when he said that he clarified it. Otherwise it's just going to perpetuate the "what do you eat for protein" ignorance.

Also, Letterman had on a climate change guy last week (didn't catch name) and, as usual, he didn't say one thing about about animal agriculture. Frustrating. Sigh.

WTF is wrong with these people?

After his heart surgery, John McDougall wrote an open letter to President Clinton offering him the McDougall program.

What I heard was Clinton stating, "I eat fish occasionally." His daughter Chelsea is a vegan. I don't think he gets it.

It also appears that he is quite unaware of all the research done over the years on vegan eating habits and health as he mentions some people have done this eating plan in the 80's with good results. Perhaps he has not read the China Study. It would be interesting if he took John McDougall up on his offer of help.

Men's Health had an article this month about vegan diets. It started off with some NFL guy, Tony Gonzales (?) I think. It also had Scott Jurek and the Twitter founder, among others. It started off really well, but towards the end it revealed that the NFL guy eats fish or poultry several times a week. It did say the were very small portions, but WTF?!?!? Why include him then?

Baby steps towards awareness I guess...

Oh My Giddy Aunt,

Bill Clinton vegan. Amazing news. This could give veganism a serious boost I think.

Actually, I heard he tried to deny it, but then Monica Lewinsky surfaced with a pair of his old trousers which were still totally stained with tofu liquid.

Is that true ? God bless her if it is.
