I AM feeling better......? about B12.

I posted on Day 2 that I was feeling kinda sick. Giving up Pepsi, sugar and a lot of processed and fast food was a lot!! But I know me. I couldn't just wean myself off. I did it cold turkey.

I am happy to report that today.....I feel really good!! I experienced massive headaches for a few days, but now they are gone!! I am losing some weight, too....so I am really happy right now.

My main question today is......I have read that the best source of vitamin B12, is from animal protein. Since I am not eating any meat, how do I get it? How much is the daily requirement? If I could take it in a vitamin supplement form, that would be okay. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Hi Sue,

I'm glad you're feeling better!

Others may have a better answer than me but what I've read on the B12 issue is that you don't need much only 5 mg. You can get it through nutritional yeast. Just sprinkle it on food or add it to a recipe. I bought it at a local health food store. Hope this helps!

We have a factsheet on B12 that is useful. You can find it here: http://www.pcrm.org/health/PDFs/faq_b12.pdf.

It's true, we need very little, 2.4 micrograms per day. A supplement or fortified food will take care of that and then some.
