dvd for husband?
Posted Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 8:16 PM
Hi everyone! Great to be a part of this community! What a great idea this 21 Day Vegan Kickstart is! Does anyone know of a dvd that explains how a vegan diet is the best of all possible ways to eat, for animals, for the earth, and for our health? I'm a reader: I love to learn from books and online. My husband does not. He enjoys learning from what he sees and hears. I know there are some intense video clips on Peta, and other sites like that, but honestly, he would just be revolted, horrified and turn away. I want a video that is full of facts, well presented, positive and even entertaining. If anyone has any recommendations, thank you so much! Best, Ahimsa

Gosh. There are certainly books like Diet for a New America and The China Study. As for a movie, there is one coming out called Forks over Knives. I don't know when exactly. It focuses on the research of Drs Campbell and Esselstyn. Very science-based but not jargon-y.

Peaceable Kingdom is supposed to be good ... there's an older version (hard to get, there may be a few copies available on amazon) and a newer version which they are touring with ... I don't know what the story is on purchasing it. Dr. Michael Greger has a bunch of great videos available. Also Mike Anderson - The Rave Diet, and Healing Cancer. YOu can check the Vegan Outreach website, they may have some stuff there. Oh here's something: http://www.all-creatures.org/articles/act-veg-vid.html Good luck ... I know full well what it's like to enlighten a significant other. It was a turbulent road but I succeeded.

Here are a couple that are based on the nutrition aspect, but not on the other aspects. http://www.vegsource.com/news/2010/01/chocolate-cheese-meat-sugar-physically-addictive-foods.html http://www.vegsource.com/news/2009/12/the-perils-of-dairy-video.html Personally, seeing "The Future of Food" helped move me over the line, though I don't know if it would do the same for others. "Earthlings" is very persuasive, but also VERY graphic. VERY. Best of luck! Let us know if you find anything really useful!

If you're husband is willing to watch stuff online, there are four good clips here that I think match your criteria of "full of facts, well presented, positive and even entertaining": http://vegandonelight.com/ One must be brave and not be afraid of the truth to watch Earthlings ... most people do run out of the room within about 5-10 minutes. But if you can ask your husband to promise to watch the whole thing, say, for your birthday, it may really get through to him. It's actually available in its entirety on google. There's also "Witness" which focuses alot on the fur trade, but does have the message of overall animal USE ... my local library manager much preferred to do a screening of Witness over Earthlings. It's by Tribe of Heart, same people that made Peaceable Kingdom. Oh, you can see the whole thing here too: http://www.tribeofheart.org/sr/sr_witscreeningroom_english.htm

I think (could be wrong) that Dr. Barnard has a video of his presentation (which I saw on PBS) that explains why vegan is a better choice. It mostly covers the nutritional aspects, not as much coverage (in what I saw) of the environmental aspects. --Deb

I noticed some of the videos on the all-creatures website were removed for some reason. Anyway, there's also this sub-link on the website: http://www.all-creatures.org/articles/video.html ... in case you didn't see it.
