Crackers

just a rant about crackers. I hosted an Oscar Party yesterday, I could not believe how many cracker brands use either, butter, milk, cheese or some combination! Forunately I found some nice flatbreads that we're olive oil.

I have been wondering about this also. I have not taken the time at this juncture to check out all the boxes of crackers because, quite frankly, Im not a big fan. But, my husband is and it would be nice to know of some in case you have guests like you did last night.

Nayone have any suggestions?

I like Mary's Gone Crackers, made from flax and other seeds. And brown rice crackers. These are both also gluten-free, so guests with that concern will appreciate them. Each comes in several flavors.

Carr's Water Table Crackers are easy to find and vegan, though not necessarily all that healthy. (White flour, etc.)

Dr. Kracker makes the Classic 3-Seed and a Spelt variety that are vegan (not gluten-free). They also make cheddar ones and a few others with cheese, so just check because they have similar packages.

Kavli and Wasa both make vegan flatbreads that are whole grain (not gluten-free).

Lots of "accidentally vegan" crackers also have trans fats, even if no butter or dairy.

I love crackers...perhaps too much. Wink

I found something yesterday that are pretty good. It's called Thin Cakes, a puffed multigrain cracker that's thin. They where great with salso.

57 calories for three cakes (thier a nice size)
Total Fat 0g
Cholesteral o
sodium 48mg
carohydrate 12g
fiber 1.5
protein 1.5

I wish they had more fiber but over all I think is's pretty good.

Oh, and I should say the Baked Corn Tortilla Chips from this plan are totally great. I have made these several times for guests--they take only a few minutes and are much better than the store-bought baked chips.

Toasted whole wheat pitas are also good and easy to do.

Don't forget baby carrots. They seem to enjoy a special status even with people who don't eat vegetables. I guess because they're so cute. Smile

If you have a Trader Joe's they have a Multigrain Savory Thins. 130 cal.2.5 total fat, 0 satur. fat,0 trans fat, 0 cholesterol, 160 sodium 24 Carbs 4 fiber, 0 sugars and 2 protein. And this is all for 17 crackers! Good for a snack. I put tiny drops of peanut butter on about 4 and am good to go. Very Happy
