Exercise Plan with KickStart?
Posted Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 2:05 PM

Hello, Is there a exercise program associated with Kickstart or is it just recommended that you do 30 min of some type of exercise? I'm not exercising but doing the diet for the week and lost nothing so far. Wondering if that's normal ?

PCRM's research has always been done with a "no change in exercise" protocol. So any of our findings have been seen with diet alone. However, exercise has many benefits including a synergistic effect on weight loss and lipids, and a great effect on mood! I highly recommend it. How much is up to you.

I personally re-started my walking schedule.

I walk between 1.5 to 3 miles a day with my dogs.

It is simple, free and I get fresh air.

In a few weeks I will probably increase movement by adding a more aerobic class (via DVD or in person)

Exercise is beneficial but not designed as integral to the kickstart. If you're looking for weight loss, exercise - bottom line is that calories out must exceed calories in to lose weight. If you're looking to improve cholesterol profile, exercise - exercise is the best way to increase HDL (the good stuff). If you're looking to improve glucose metabolism, exercise - it reduces insulin resistance.

Exercise is not my thing right now for me I know it is a mental thing that I have to over come because there are great benefits to exercising to help improve my health and speed up the weight loss process. So far I have lost 11 lbs without exercising but that does not mean I will not start walking on the treadmill or go for walks in the park.

As long as you get moving more - park two spaces further from the door to the grocery store; don't be so efficient that you eliminate that extra flight of stairs to get something; walk to the mailbox instead of stopping the car to pick up the mail on the way into the driveway; do a little dance step to music while you mop, sweep, vacuum. All of that 'counts' - you're moving more. More moving is good. Even things like simply getting up and taking a walk to the next room and back once an hour is a good thing.

For me exercise is 5 days a week. 3 days some form of cardio and 2 days of cardio + weight training. Love love love the after effects of exercising. I am also planning to include Power Yoga into my schedule.

I do 5-6 days on the treadmill and I'm trying to get into the routine of adding weights at least 3 days per week. I've gotta get those weights out someplace where I can see it more easily instead of forgetting about them.
