I ate ice cream last night...
Posted Monday, January 18, 2010 at 8:03 AM

I joined the kickstart on day 1, after giving up meat last summer. So it's really the dairy that's been the challenge for me. After being right on track, I caved in and had a bowl of ice cream (Lactaid, so no lactose but still dairy) last night.

I've been MISERABLE ever since! I can't believe how that small bowl of ice cream can make my body feel so out of sorts. I'm actually glad that I did it -- there's no better way to illustrate what dairy has done to me all these years...

Even more committed to kicking dairy now!

(And by the way, I totally CRAVE brown rice and kale... who would have ever imagined?)

Hey yogamom!

Well, today's a new day. Man, that ice cream. What an invention, it is so seductive in flavor!

It brought to mind something wild Dr. McDougall has said. We're told by the AHA to cut down on saturated fats and moderate fats altogether. Then we're told by the dairy council to get our calcium - and all the foods like cheese and ice cream count toward same. So, the message is, you shouldn't eat certain foods for your health, but you should eat them so you can be healthy. Rolling Eyes

I have to let you know, I too am in the crave the brown rice club, isn't it a riot? My current fix is brown jasmine..... Laughing

I hear ya:see UGH weekend! I still crave icecream when my family is out getting some and I have actually developed an allergy to it. It is hard to change all the thinking and emotional connections to some foods we grew up with. I am making a conscous effort to think about how I will feel after I put a particular food in my mouth before I do it (since I can not always keep those foods out of my environment). For now move on and feel good about today. Faith

Yogamom,

I think your experience will keep you away from ice cream because now you have the real experience of what dairy does to you after you've given your body a rest from it. It's amazing how it rights itself and how craving rice and veggies becomes the norm.

Great job on not beating yourself up and instead seeing how the experience can benefit you and thanks sharing it with us!
