looking pasty?
Posted Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10:10 PM

I hate to even say this, but it seems like my skin, well at least my face, haven't really looked anywhere else, is looking really white, pale, pasty.

I've heard of pasty-faced vegans but I always thought that was just made up by those who don't want to consider the benefits of vegetarian eating.

I am not thinking of eating animal products at this time but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this? What is it? Will it go away? Is there anything to be eating in particular to help, etc?

Thanks!

How do you feel? Tired or weak? You may want to have your doc order bloodwork to check your hematocrit. Possible anemia?

I'm definitely more tired and tired-out-looking since I started this.

Pale/pasty and tired-out are definitely not the side effects of a healthful vegan diet. Since I personally can't analyze everyone's diet who is participating in the Kickstart, I encourage you to consider a couple of things:

1. Find a free on-line nutrient analysis program and enter in EVERYTHING you eat for at least a day. See what kind of report it gives you. Low in something like calories? Iron? Adjust your diet accordingly.

2. Enter in what you eat here on the Kickstart listserve. This group is incredibly knowledgeable.

Either way, details are needed - amounts you eat, brand names, etc.
