tofu in recipes

I can only get firm tofu where i live. will that work in the recipes which call for silken tofu? or would it just be a waste of time (and tofu) to try? Thanks!

It really depends on what it is. If it is something like pudding, then I would not suggest using anything other than silken.

I have used firm tofu in the chocolate tofu pie. Although it is better to use a softer one.

If you have the time, you could make some soft tofu using soy milk and lemon juice.. search on youtube for general tofu making instructions, and when they add their coagulating agent-the thing that will separate the soy curds (tofu) and whey (yellowish water left over), you add lemon juice instead. It's an effort.. and you'll just get a little tofu, but worth it!

or you could substitute plain soy yogurt or any non dairy yogurt for the silken tofu. Smile
