Correct. The vegan form is D2, ergocalciferol. This is the form that is included in fortified plant milks and all vegan formulations of multivitamins, etc.
I have found the D2 in my milk and multivitamin to be sufficient for myself, and have all my levels checked each year at my annual physical. So far, so good. There is some evidence that a higher dose of D2 is needed than D3, that is, IF a person is not getting sufficient sunshine and needs to supplement. Not everyone does.
