Have you been vegan a long time? I think this would matter to your B12 status. I don't think there's any (scientific) debate that vegans should be taking B12, whatever their age. It's very important...and luckily very easy. Fortified foods are common--soymilks, some rice milks, many cereals. And vegan multivitamins all have it. I'm not a parent, so I'm not sure about how best to provide supplementation for children, but the book BECOMING VEGAN by two vegan RDs named Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina has infancy and childhood covered with all kinds of great info. I don't have it handy, but I am happy to look it up for you later if you can't find it. And I agree seeing your doc is a good idea. Please take care...and good luck!
