I messed up today, but tomorrow is another day.

I went out to eat today for lunch. Big mistake....I ate a Quizno's veggie, but I forgot to tell them to leave off the cheese!!! I also had way too much lemonade!!! What was I thinking. Then tonight I ate pizza. I can feel the difference in my mood....Tomorrow I am getting back on the right track!!!

Just wanted to vent!!!

Don't worry about slip-ups! It's not about being perfect - it's about learning and progress. After 8 mos. I just found out that not all wine is vegan! (Smashed grapes, who'd have thunk? Some of the filtering agents are just wrong! Google "isinglass".) If we were perfect, no one would tolerate us. Just do the best you can because every step you take down the vegan road helps you, the animals, and the environment. Takes many baby steps to learn to walk this road. And we learn to walk to teach those that follow...

Yep, everyone messes up. It's OK. Next time you go out you'll have this experience in mind and know what to do. New habits. Smile

LOL! When I started this I decided to give myself one free day every month. The first cpl of months I did it w/out looking back but I felt like CRAP when I was done and throughout the next day or so. Well I am getting close to that day again and I just have NO desire whatsoever to cross that line again.

Occasional slips here and there and things that are just out of our control will happen. Just laugh, learn and keep moving forward. Wink

Fiji - That's funny because that's how I feel now too. I haven't cheated or slipped up very much in the year that I've been vegan, but I have a trip to Mexico coming up next week. I'm really worried about how on earth I'm going to be able to stick with a vegan diet in Mexico (especially when I have to go to several catered events), and I've already given myself permission to just try the best I can and not worry about it too much. The problem is that I have absolutely no desire to eat cheese again, much less fish or chicken broth or lard - yuk. Weird - so many people think this diet would be impossible to stick to because you are missing out on so much, and I'm miserable because I just might have to eat the stuff I'm missing out on.

And, just for the record, I'm PERFECT in my imperfectness!

KC, I like that - I'm perfect in my imperfectness too.

I have slipped up a couple of times on this 'vegan' road, which I am new too (this is my first attempt) but am loving, loving the diversity of the food choices, and really enjoying all the new things I am tasting...it's an exciting journey for me. I enjoy cooking, and find that the recipes are clear and concise and easy to follow.

So far have lost a couple of pounds, and am feeling good, feeing like I am accessing some sort of inner part of myself that has been hidden and every now and again it just bubbles over with joy - I can't explain it better than that, but dang - it feels good!! Smile

You know, it occurs to me that after eating so badly the first 58 years of my life, I intend to eat vegan and be extremely healthy for the next 58 years! Laughing

I, too, will be challenged tonight - going to a catered 40th birthday party and have no control over the menu - but I'll do the best I can and just move the rubber chicken to my bread plate, focusing on the potato/rice and veggies - yes, they probably use butter - but I will do the best I can - then I will forgive myself and move on. (I'm hoping it will be a buffet so I can focus on the salads and veggies).
BTW, since March 1, I've already lost 6 lbs and fitting into some old "skinny" pants. Life is good!

I'm guessing you're staying in a hotel room with no kitchenette. In that case, you can bring oatmeal packets (like the ones recently blogged on the veganlunchbox website) and start your day off right. I find most hotel rooms have some sort of tea/coffee maker device that will get the water plenty hot for you.

Also, Lonely Planet usually lists some vegetarian dining options for almost every place. You can look at the library or go to their website and download only the chapter you need for the specific spot in Mexico you're visiting. (very handy)

Perhaps, for the catered events, there's a coordinator you can speak with who can help guarantee you healthy, plant-based meals.

Thanks, TXgirl. I'll definitely check out Lonely Planet. I had forgotten about it. Used to use it all the time when I traveled more - pre-kids. I'm not as worried about breakfast - everywhere will have fruit I'm sure. I also bought a bunch of Larabars that I'm going to stick in my luggage. We are going to a wedding so I don't want to make too many requests of the hosts re: catering, but they are apparently going to do something for me at the rehearsal dinner. I hate to feel like an imposition.
