If I take a multi-vitamin that include B-12, should I also take a separate B-12 supplement? Thanks!

If the multi meets the RDA for B12, then you probably don't need an additional supplement. It should indicate on the packaging how much is in there (10%, 100%, 150%, whatever) --Deb R

Agreed - You should be fine. You only need 2.4 mcg of B12 per day. Most supplements, including multis, will probably have much more than that.

One note - if you are over 50, you may need extra as the ability to absorb B-12 decreases with age. My husband and I (age 60 & both vegan for years) found our B-12 low with blood tests, even though we took a multi with plenty of B-12. After adding 2000 mg.B-12 sublingual tab/week we are now up to normal levels. The sublingual route increases absorption.

A multi for over 50 folks usually has a TON of B12 in it, for that very reason. I just checked and the multi I take has 800% of the RDA of B12. I figure between that and nutritional yeast (which we use frequently), I should be okay (for now at least).--Deb R

oh and also, that's 800% of the RDA daily (it's a once a day supplement, not once a week as the sublingual mentioned is). --Deb R
