Bloated, Clogged and Yucky!

OK, probably happens to us all, but what's the best solution?

Since yesterday, I'm kinda clogged up, and bloated (possible PMS?), with a lot of pressure and bloating in my stomach. I feel very uncomfortable.

Any cleanout suggestions? What works for you?

Give your gut some time off, i.e., eat an early dinner and don't eat again until late breakfast. Definitely drink water in that time. And true, coffee is a good intestinal stimulant.

Are you eating a lot of vegan convenience foods and processed foods?

Try one day of mostly fresh, raw, unprocessed foods. I try to have one 'raw' day a week. All fresh fruits, salads, raw veggies, etc. I always feel especially light and clean the next day.

It also may simply be a matter of your system adapting - along with the PMS, of course!

Most Americans only get about 10 ( Shocked ) grams of fiber in their daily diets - when you eat plant strong, you'll be aiming for 40, 50, or more! And if you make a big jump in overnight, it can cause a bit of an upset and this may be part of what you are experiencing, too.

You can slow down a little bit on the more fibrous foods such as whole grains and beans, and focus on starchy vegetables and watery veggies - and drinking a little more water may help with your transition, as well.

There are also agents such as Beano to assist with
digestion.

Give your system time - it will soon love it, I promise!

I agree with Lani. As I adapt to this diet, I've had a couple days here and there where my stomach gets bloated, gassy and it kind of hurts. But as it gets worked out it gets easier to eat a high fiber diet.

This morning I had a banana and peppermint tea (no sugar) and it helped quite a bit. As others recommended, don't eat too much until your tummy feels settled.

I think our bodies just need to adjust from the disgusting diet we used to eatSmile.

Be prepared...

Right after this kickstart began, hubby had a couple days of serious 'backup' so I told him to have a cup of coffee. That really helped clear things up. Other things that can help include lying on the right side with knees slightly bent (to clear gassiness); warm bath (with or without epsom salts); a good walk (paced to get a little sweaty but not huffing and puffing); rubbing the abdomen gently in a clockwise circular motion; a nice lower back massage (if you can find someone who will do that for you)
