Ingredient Check List
Posted Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 6:35 PM

Hello dear Vegan-Friends,

I've been vegeterian for over 20 years now and decided to try the kickstart21 to become a full vegan. I do have a question though, besides fresh veggies, fruit and grains I find it quite tough in a regular supermarket to find something vegan. Does anyone feel the same way. Often there is no meat, dairy etc. added and the ingredient list seems "clean" however it often states that it could contain traces of milk etc. Rolling Eyes so would you still eat it if milk is no ingredient but traces of it could be in this product. I'm asking this because so many products have this statement labelled...I was wondering how everyone is dealing with this issue...

Hi, I was vegetarian for decades as well, and took the vegan plunge just this past April. Welcome!

I know what you mean about that "may contain" warning. I have decided to take it in the spirit of "may contain peanuts" which I understand is something which must be included (because of the seriousness of peanut allergies) if the product DOES NOT intentionally contain peanuts, but was made in a facility which makes other things with peanuts. There is always the possibility of things drifting about from one container to another, and accidentally killing someone. This is serious, in the case of peanuts, but I am not that worried about accidental traces of milk. I hope I am on target with this. Maybe someone who knows the law better can jump in with an opinion.

Do watch for cassein though, that is definitely milk!

Marion,

I am not sure if you realise but you double posted this thread so there are more replies at the other post Very Happy I hope you do not think I am being rude mentioning this, I just didnt want you to miss the responses to your great question.

P.S. I have done the same thing myself (double posted) more than once. The last time being tonight and I have just figured out how it happened. I was being impatient and clicked on 'save' twice because it was slow and I thought it wasnt going to work. Then when it clicked over to the forum list - two posts Exclamation
