RE: I'm new. I'm diabetic.

KC I was diagnosed as a "Type 2" diabetic 10 years ago. I have tried from time to time to follow the ADA "diabetic diet" with very little success. I tried South Beach (My Triglycerides went way up). Lately my fasting glucose readings were alarmingly high (180+). My doctor is considering whether or not to put me on insulin injections. I found out about this program on our PBS station just a week ago. Dr. Barnard made a lot of sense. I bought his book. I have been on the diet for only 4 days. Already my energy levels are up and I am losing some weight. BUT most important! My fasting Blood sugar this morning was 129!!!! (I know that's not great, but, I am encouraged) I don't even believe it myself! My long term goal is to reduce my meds. I, obviously, don't have much experience on the diet yet, but, I am really "PUMPED" by these early results. I will be getting another Blood test in about a month, I sure hope the a1c starts to drop. OBTW the recipes in Dr. Barnard's book " Dr Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes" are delicious and I am going to try some of them from this site as well. So far, so good! Also, I had dinner at a reastaurant the other evening and was able to eat "Vegan" by "cherry picking" the appetizer menu and having a short chat with the chef. So from one "Newb" to another, hang in there! And Good luck!
