Sooooo Hungry!!
Posted Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 9:07 AM

I can not eat just the recommended diet and not want to gnaw my arm off. I am normal weight with too much belly fat. I have been 90% vegan for a long time and now 100%. I am waaay to hungry to eat the suggested meal. I typically eat a smoothie AND oatmeal for breakfast, handful of trail mix or apple for snack, veggies and rice for lunch, another snack in afternoon, and veggies, bean, grains for supper.

Kimberly,

If your appetite is greater than a 'serving'and you are eating whole foods with plenty of starches and veggies and keeping your fats low, then let your appetite be your guide.

If you are trying to lose fat, that means minimize the fats (nuts may best be saved for when weight is not a problem as they are so calorie dense), maximize non-disrupted fibrous foods and pile your plate with 50% veggies the other half starchy veggies or whole grains.

Smoothies can be helpful when time is pressed yet also may not give you the satiety of a chewed meal, which is tied into our - well, satiety. This may help you as well.

I agree with Lani. When I was trying to lose the most weight, I stuck to more filling foods, like raw veggies and fruits, some whole grains and beans in moderate amounts, and kept the nuts/seeds/fats to a minimum. Bread, crackers, processed grains are a wonderful part of the diet eventually, but won't help you lose right away – they're more of a maintenance thing. Keep your portions controlled on things like rice and grains, because they are high in calories. Fill up on those vegetables! Very Happy

But on another note, you say you're at a normal weight, but just with too much belly fat. Is there normal fat distribution on the rest of your body? Because it *may* be that what you really need is exercise! lol... I didn't know it myself, but that's what I needed. Smile

Molly, I think you are right. I do yoga and walk 2 1/2 miles every day and hate to 'sweat' BUT when I get on my elliptical my belly starts to melt~sigh Confused Thanks for the reply!!

Eat a lot of veg with every meal. I make my plates mostly veg and that way i get a greater mass of food, but not many more calories.

I would eat fruit instead of drinking smoothies. Maybe a big bowl of berries and banana with a low fat rice yogurt.

Dont eat nuts or cut way back and dont add oil to anything, or do it sparingly.

snack on popcorn with nutritional yeast or hummus and veg.

For a sweet tooth, you could try baked apple, fruit popsicles or Hemp bars (so good and vegan and 100 calories each).

Exercise is also key. Park farther away when shopping and get more steps in during the day and walk or dance for 1/2 hour a day.
