I've been curious about the Blood Type diet and was wondering what others thoughts are about it. If only Type A's benefit from a vegetarian or vegan diet, then I'm on the wrong track! Smile I've never really been a big meat eater and frankly never crave meat dishes - this is what led me to try the Kickstart program. My blood type indicates I should be on a higher meat based protein diet. Hmmm... I'm battling bringing down LDL cholesterol and keeping triglycerides at least where they're at, or even lowering them. Has anyone ever tried this way of eating or know of anyone that has and what were the results, if you don't mind sharing. Thanks!

I'm not an expert or a dietitian, but from everything I've read, blood type doesn't have anything to do with the way your body processes nutrients. All of us digest food the same way, and it all becomes energy, muscle, fat, etc. the same way. From what I can tell, the Blood Type Diet people are just another fad diet that will disappear before too long.

Regarding your cholesterol, triglyceridges, etc: cholesterol and (most) saturated fat come from animal products. If you want to lower your cholesterol and saturated fat intake, it makes sense to lower the amount of animal products in your diet. Since you are doing well on a plant-based diet, I think the evidence is clear – YOU are the answer! Smile Keep on doing what you've been doing!

Spot on Molly. The blood type diet is based on absolutely nothing scientific. I give its creator nods for coming up with something novel, but that sure doesn't make it true.

Stick with the evidence-based stuff. It usually works out for the best!

I think the Blood Type diet is based on other older ideas regarding genetic origins - for example, peoples that originated in the colder, darker, northern climates maintain more ability to digest dairy into adulthood because it was (theoretically) necessary as a way to get nutrition when other foods weren't available. Blood types do tend to follow something of a genetic trail. But, peoples have mixed so much over time that there's really no telling truly where someone is 'from', blood types are all over the map now.
