Track weight changes here

I thought it would be nice to have a place to post any weight losses, or gains (if that's your goal, I saw a few posts about this). I thought it might help keep us inspired.

I need to lose about 30 pounds. I would be happy with any loss, since I have been unable to lose weight since my baby was 2 months old (lost the pregnancy weight in 2 months! What a let down it didn't continue though...). It's been 9 months and I am really ready to see some more progress.

I can't wait to see how everyone else is doing!

Since Monday I've lost 4.5 lbs. Stay fuller longer, is the keep thing for me. Emotionally I sometimes crave sugars but do it up w/more leafy greens(very satisfied). I've quit all the processed foods completely.

I love food too much, so I had to lQQk @ it from a differ perspective.

That's really awesome that you are doing so well! I haven't lost anything yet, but I think I am going to up the veggies and down the starches a bit. Love the quote by the way. I am finding a lot of satisfaction that my diet is finally reflecting my ethics.

lost the 2 lbs I gained over the holidays (the same two that I've gained and lost a few times over the last couple of months - if I counted every time I lost the same 3 lbs, I've probably lost at least a TON in the last 5 years LOL). So, now the real adventure begins - heading into long uncharted territory, below what I weighed when I got pregnant 13 years ago.

In other news, hubby and I cleaned out the closet last weekend and got rid of all the stuff that's way too big to wear now. Bags of it! Donated to Goodwill as much as possible (tossed stuff that was ripped or stained or whatever). So now our closet is also much lighter!

HI
I only weigh myself once a month at the beginning of the month.
I did make an exception last month.. after putting on so many layers of winter clothes, i felt heavier. I was a bit depressed, thinking maybe i gained weight.. wondering if i would wake up one day and it had snuck back on.

so i weighed myself and found i had actually lost 2 lbs. i guess it was the layers of clothes!! whew. what a relief.

I only 'count' my weight once a week but I get on the scale every morning to get a rough idea - I weigh three times and then average to see if I'm the same, trending up, or trending down. That way I don't get sticker shock if I've gained on the weekly weighing day. I can course-correct mid stream instead of going a whole week. Works for me, but I know that would stress some people to weigh daily (since weight does fluctuate day to day).

Perhaps the weight comes off more easily for some, or maybe I'm not doing things right? Losing 4.5lbs in a few days sounds amazing! I weighed myself the evening of day 1 (Monday), which of course is heavier but that's when I got around to it. Haven't weighed again, but don't see/feel any different yet. Does the loss very depending on how heavy you are to begin with?? Are some foods better than others (so far nothing has been processed, and actually no bread has been consumed...it's all been fruit/veg or grains of rice/lentils/couscous/beans) Thoughts?

1 - it can take a week or more to actually feel the weight come off as your body adjusts
2 - it is possible to eat vegan and still eat more calories than your body needs in a day (yes, it's possible to find fat vegans!)
3 - yes, weight loss will vary based on a lot of individual characteristics
4 - make sure you're getting plenty of water to flush out your system - the best way to avoid water retention is drinking more water (weird yes, but true)

Thanks for the insight. I have been drinking a lot of herbal tea, because I feel like I'm on the verge of getting a chest cold, so I think the water intake is ok. What's the word on adding honey to soothe my throat? Is this ok, or a mark against weight loss?

Honey is sometimes not considered 'vegan' (since it is made by animals for their own use). Your choice though, it's kind of one of those 'gray' areas for many. Honey, of course, has calories (it's sugar) so that could affect weight loss if it puts your intake over what you need.

A nice throat soother (provided you don't have congestion) is to put a small dollop of vegan margarine in a mug of plant milk (your choice). Warm in saucepan or microwave until the margarine just melts. Stir in a spoonful of sweetener (honey, agave, maple syrup, your choice). It's really warming and soothing to a sore, scratchy throat. But, yes, there's fat and calories involved (but it tastes and feels wonderful when you're not feeling well).

I've lost a bit over two pounds since Saturday morning. Eating more fruit and giving up my cookies are undoubtedly the cause, since I have not been eating very much meat or dairy for quite awhile now.

I weighed 162 this morning. My goal is 145. I got down to about 135 two years ago, but when I go back to pictures from that time, I think my face looked way too thin.

I'm scared to weight myself (also I moved so i can find my scale). I've heard that watching the scale can be detrimental to your weight/health success.. I do shift work so I find it hard to stick to the menu and i have to say that i do rely on pre-made food. I have tried to ensure I make on meal item (either lunch or dinner) and force a lil breakie in there if I can.
I guess I will give it till the end of the week and weight myself. Wish me luck. Very Happy

Good luck MaryJ and others on the weight loss! Razz
I totally forgot I bought the agave sweetner from Costco! Haven't used it yet...does it soothe a throat like honey? How about calorie for calorie? Is one better than the other?

I have found incorporating Chia seeds in my diet, I have more energy & able to lose without the caffeine & sugars dependency. I must add nutritional as well.

The prevailing wisdom used to be to weigh no more than once a week ... but lately I have read that research shows that weighing daily keeps one on track better. I think it's personal preference. If I wait a week in between getting on the scale, it's too easy to say, "Well, I still have time before I weigh next Monday ..." where if I get on there every day, I am more accountable to myself.

accountability is a biggie as well. As I noted, for me, it's one of those things where if I know I'm heading off track (and sometimes it's hard to tell when I'm still eating good stuff, but just too much of a good thing) I can re-group and not lose the rest of the week and be up a couple pounds next week. I do software testing professionally (almost 21 years at it) and I know that if the schedule slips by a day or two now, and doesn't get corrected quickly, we'll be a month or two off down the road at release time. Easier to correct when it's just a small correction needed.

I've lost 3.5 lbs since Monday. (I got off track Monday night and ate turkey for dinner and cheesecake for desert - but I've been sticking with vegan since then). (I have a lot of weight to lose. I am starting at 220 lbs). The last time I tried this I kept losing weight rapidly, too bad I lost my enthusiasm!

The best thing about this way of eating is I am not hungry and I feel more energetic.

Good luck to everyone!

This is the first time I've tried a vegan diet. However, I don't consider myself a big meat eater. I have a lot of weight to loose (90 lbs.) so weight loss is my number one motivation but I also appreciate the other health benefits of eating a vegan diet. I've stuck to the plan since Monday a.m. and this morning had lost 4 lbs.
My omnivore husband has even agreed to do the 21 day kickstart with me as a means of support. Our children are trying the new dishes, however, I am still cooking them some meat. We are laughing a lot about the whole thing, especially about Daddy being on a vegan diet, but I feel great!

My husband really loves most of the vegan dishes I make and my kids too. Just keep trying different dishes and they'll be requesting them. We had black bean burritos tonight and everyone loved them. I let everyone else use sour cream and shredded cheese, while I skipped the sour cream and used "cheese". Other favorites of even my picky eater are veggie spaghetti and the lentil soup.

As of this morning I have lost 1lb. Not enough to really say it is weight loss as sometimes small amounts can just be fluid adjustment/loss rather than those pesky fat cells. At least I am not putting it on so thankful for that. While I am eating a lot better and staying away from all meats and dairy/cheese, I need to adjust to more low fat and decrease the amount I eat (portion size). I have been loving what I have been eating so have been having plenty these past 4 days.
