Vegan Shopping in the Chicago area
Posted Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 11:57 AM

Hi,

I have been shopping at the supermarket, Trader Joe's & Whole Foods Markets but I still can't find a few things that are listed in this program. I.E. Nutritional yeast and some of the recommended prepared foods (e.gt. Amy's Brand).

Does anyone have any suggestions on other places to try in the Chicago "Burbs"?

Thanks in advance,

Dave Very Happy

I don't know anything about shopping in Chicago, but I would be really surprised if the Whole Foods doesn't carry these things. Have you asked someone who works there? They may not have the specific Amy's brand, but they should have some similar products, and they should have nutritional yeast. If not, maybe they will order it when you request it.

Thanks TexGal!

I will try a different WF store today. The one that is the closest is a bit small. It may not carry as much variety. The store that I am going to try today is a new (open about 11 months) larger market. I am sure that they will have more stuff. It is only 7 miles away, but that is about 40-45 mins drive time (So I like to "stock up" when I go Smile.

Also, I don't see as well as I once did so I will take my bride today to help me find things Smile.

And I did ask a person at the store and I got a "dumb look" Sad

Anyway, I am sure that I'll be OK, I have been searching the web for vegan shops in Chicago, so far I haven't found one that I didn't know about.

Thanks again!

Dave

The Whole Foods at Rand and Dundee Roads (Palatine, I think) has Nutritional Yeast. I suppose it's possible that some Whole Foods stores are small and don't carry everything. I travel all over to find what I want.

Hey parkridgedave, the Meijer stores in west Michigan carry a good variety of Amy's products. Maybe they do in Chicago too.

Hi, the Whole Foods at Rand and Dundee also has Amy's products. They are quite good! Also, if someone give you a dumb look, ask someone else. I have asked various workers at Whole Foods and have found them to be quite helpful.

Whoa! Great response! Thank you all! Laughing

Well, I went to the Whole Foods at Willow and Waukegan Road. I found everything and more. They have a Vegan section that I could not believe!

That store is at least 3 times the size of the one in Sauganash and it has parking!

Again, thanks to all who responded. This is a very helpful forum.

Also, the "inconvenience" of the program Laughing is offset by the results. I have been on it for 5 days and my fasting blood sugar was 119 this morning (started at around 190-200). So what's a little extra driving?

Ciao! Dave
