At Costco I found some vegan veggie burgers. They were in the cooler area where the cheese and dips are so they were not frozen. Don't remember the name, but they were demo-ing them during the Jan. Kickstart!

I too have seen Boca Burgers at Costco. They ARE really high in protein however, which is a consideration - so as flavor agents or condiment or part of a day balanced out with lots of veggies, fruits, and whole-grains, you're probably OK.

Dobby - I think I got those same ones in January. My Aunt picked them up for me after a demo @ Costco. I still have some in my freezer.

I threw out the wrapper but I think they are named something like Don Lee Farms Veggie Patties. I know the ones I got were 100% vegan and really great on a bun, in enchilada's, chili etc.

At my Costco, I get:

Rice Milk (12 1/2 gallon boxes in a carton)

Soy Milks (unflavored and vanilla)

A couple of times they had Almond milk, but not right now.

Faux frozen Black Bean Burgers, Sausage Patties, and Boca Burgers

Fresh veggie burgers

12# sack of brown rice

25# sack of kidney beans

carton of 8 cans of cooked chick peas

carton of 8 cans of cooked black beans

4 bean salad in a 1/2 gallon jar

My Sams is not nearly as vegan friendly but does have the black beans in a 25# sack.

Interesting. Hubby will eat two of them for a meal. I have half of one about once a week - cut back from almost daily. He thinks that a lot of protein is needed, and often asks where is the protein in a meal. He won't read anything. I have Barnards new book. It was sitting on the couch next to him, but he would not even think to read it. I know it has some info about protein in it. It is amazing how people are mislead. I once had a session with a personal trainer who told me I needed a lot of protein - like 100 grams or more a day! I know this is too much.

In addition to what's been mentioned, my Costco has big bags of quinoa, I think 2 or 3 lbs, and 3lb. Bags of nuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans. Also oatmeal.

do you guys find costco cheaper than buying bulk at the health food store?

Great! We are going to Sam's this morning. I will let you know what I find.

I am trying to figure out if Sam's, Whole Foods, Trader Joes or local grocery stores are cheaper. I am a coupon freak. So normally I don't buy unless I have a coupon AND it is on sale. Very Happy Well of course Sam's since you can't use coupons there.

We are also going to Super Target.

Have fun and update us!

I have spent some time writing out price comparisons (can only do that when I am not in a hurry!) between Costco and a local warehouse type store. I do find Costco and the other store are cheaper than my local health food coop. I don't have Trader Joes or Whole foods.

I am also picky about the bulk food bins at the local warehouse store. They have big barrels for some things and I wont purchase items out of them!

On some things yes and others no. I have found that sometimes it just appears to be a bigger is better thing, but once you do ad & coupon comparing you really start to know what is a deal and what isn't. This past year I have become really good at this, lol.

Some stores have some amazing bins also and this is a great way to save. I used to have such a freak out about bins, until the newer levered ones started popping up (you know where people can't play in the food lol). There is a store out here that is not whole foods or even a health food store, but they fill their bins with Bob's Red Mill brand & other higher end stuff and it is extremely cheap. Compared to the health food "organics" bins using basically the same stuff, but at a much higher rate. And believe me I shoot for Certified Organic whenever possible.

Sorry for the ramble, lol

Sam's was a bust. Only thing I saw was Vegan Boca Burgers and Silk.

Now of course you can get canned tomato paste etc that would be Vegan.

No dried beans, no whole wheat flour and no brown rice. Rolling Eyes

Very disappointing.

It's important, if you're buying from bulk bins, to have some idea of the turnover rate at that location. Places that have really BIG bins likely never actually get to the bottom on a regular basis. Smaller bins plus good turnover (are there lots of people using that area) tend to mean more fresh items (since it ahs to be refilled more often).

Our Sam's club has the same soy milk and Boca burgers. Not much else that is processed because we like to use whole grains. What they do have though is a great selection of fruits and veggies (some organic and some not). I love to buy the portobella (sp?) mushrooms for grilling for sandwiches. Plus keeping a huge bin of salad fixings seems to encourage me to eat them more.

Don Lee Farms has the best vegetarian "meat"balls that are available at Costco. Unfortunately, they have cheese in them. I brought them to a potluck and the meat eaters devoured them. I will check out the veggie burgers though. I am always looking for vegan foods at Costco.
