Meat lovin', dairy chuggin' Husband

I LOVE eating healthy! 21 day kickstart is great; I've felt informed, empowered, and a little lighter too!

My husband LOVES eating.
I omitted the 'healthy' on purpose.

He wanted to do the kickstart with me mostly out of convenience (it's easier to cook one meal instead of two...) but he is generally also interested in what I am interested in, so he was also doing the kickstart for me.

But he is having a really hard time. He loves dairy (milk is his favorite drink) and fish and chicken (since he gave up red meat after meeting me - yay!)so I want to encourage him... but don't really know how to encourage this carnivore.

I love my husband more than anything else second to God- how can I let him know his health is so important?

Thanks everyone!

Maybe he first needs to believe that diet is as important to his health as we believe it is. My awakening was reading "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell nearly 3 years ago and following that up with other books reporting on studies that demonstrated, beyond any reasonable doubt, that a whole-food, plant-based diet would eliminate most of the risk of western diseases (heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes) and reduce the incidence of many cancers.

If he is a reader, get him the books. If not, try some videos like this 51 minute one by Dr. Colin Campbell which hits on some of the points in his book, "The China Study."

I was a vegetarian for 10 years. I have to agree, the China Study did it for me with dairy. I hear people saying they "love" cheese, can't give up cheese. Truth is, they are addicted to cheese. Addictions take away your power. Don't give cheese your power.

Hi Hun,

My thoughts are that with any addiction the person with the addiction has to want to quit. He has to want to quit dairy. You cant' make him. You can be an influence, just as you are an influence to those who do not believe in God.

Give him time and be patient.

Good luck and God bless

I agree - you can't force him to change. My husband still eats meat (just not every day and not nearly as often as he used to) and cheese and I just go ahead and make whatever I'm planning on eating and 9 times out of 10, he'll at least eat what I'm having as a side dish. I think that as long as he's at least trying different foods, he's eating healthier than he would on his own, so I don't push it. He has to make his own decision about what he wants to eat. Besides, I already have 2 kids plus myself I need to decide what to feed without adding him to the mix. Wink
