Guacamole at Chipotle Grill???
Posted Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11:21 AM

The webpage said to make the veggie burrito vegan at Chipotle Grill to leave off the guacamole (and cheese and sour cream -those I get). Are there non-vegan ingredients in the guacamole? If so I may have to cry. I love their veggie burritos, but I have always gotten them with the guacamole. Do I need to skip the green?

Great question. The guacamole at Chipotle is vegan (some Mexican restaurants cut theirs with mayonaise or sour cream). But if weight loss, diabetes, heart disease, or cancer are concerns for you personally, I would recommend getting as much fat out of your diet as possible. Even vegan fat.

Thanks for such a quick response. I do need to loose so I guess it is bye bye guacamole, but I am glad to know their's is vegan.

Susan, I am interested in the cancer issue. I have lost almost all the weight I need to lose. Should I continue to eat low-fat vegan to cut cancer risks?

Is there a list of cancers influenced by eating a low-fat vegan diet?

If you are at an ideal weight, you are certainly at less risk. If you have gotten the animal products out of your diet, then you are even less at risk, especially if you have replaced those foods with abundant fruits and vegetables. There is plenty of research to back that up.

Cancers that are affected by fat are usually the cancers related to hormones (breast, prostate, ovarian, etc.). There is also evidence for this as well.

To really get a look at the research, I suggest you go to this document and read, http://support.cancerproject.org/site/DocServer/Healthy_Eating_for_Life.pdf?docID=401&autologin=true.

But in short, if you are at your ideal weight, I wouldn't get too obsessive about not ever eating any fat, especially from avocadoes and limited nuts.

Hi Susan –
I hope you see this message! You seem like you're really fit and healthy, and vegan, I'm sure! Smile Do you exercise regularly?

Would you be willing to share about how many grams of fat you eat on an average day? What are your main sources of fat?

I'm trying to gain a little weight, and then want to plateau, but I don't want to just gain fat. It would be helpful to me, and to many others, I'm sure, to know what a healthy, nutritionally-conscious vegan consumes on average.

Thank you for any tips you can offer.

Well, I appreciate the vote of confidence.

I don't know exactly how much fat I eat in a day, honestly. Although I do avoid oils, nut butters, nuts, and pastries as much as possible. I do run and bike to work everyday which allows me to eat more food than if I weren't. I'm guessing most of the fat I eat comes from tofu, tempeh, and whole grains. If you are trying to gain weight, you might consider juice - not too much, even adding an 8 oz glass a day will eventually put on pounds. Or make a smoothie that has a base of juice instead of water or plant milk. Throw some dried fruit in your smoothie too.

I hope this helps!

No problem! We all need help and it doesn't bother me at all that you used my thread to get it! I am glad you got your answers!

I'm not sure I understand the etiquette in "hijacking" threads. I would think if the original poster has acknowledged the answer then continuing the conversation would be up for grabs.

I don't have very good manners in general though.
