Granola bars?
Posted Monday, March 15, 2010 at 2:29 PM

Does anyone have a recipe for something like a granola bar that will hold up to being carried in a backpak while hiking? I have looked around on several sites and haven't found anything. I ate the last of my Nature Valley bars this weekend, and thought I could probably cook up something with a lot less sugar. I'm sure there are also others on the market that would be better choices. I do see a lot of references to Lara Bars, but I don't think I have ever tried them. I guess I could make some healthy muffins or cookies, but I'm afraid those would just fall apart in the pack. (Or get eaten way before I got to the trail!) Any suggestions and/or recipes would be welcome. Thanks!

Larabars are the goods and I think they would be perfect for a backpacker as they have quite a bit of fat in them (from the nuts). I don't usually eat them when I'm bicycling, unless I'm doing a back to back century, because of the fat. (too hard to digest when riding)
