Recipes Nutritional value
Posted Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 3:20 PM
Hello, I am so excited to be doing the 21 day kickstart! My very first attempt at vegetarian/vegan and I am finding it easier than I thought. Thanks to the yummy recipes that are provided. But here's my question. My husband is doing this with me - oh yeah, but he doesn't know it! He just knows he's eating lots of really good things and enjoying it. We haven't talked about a 'label' for him yet!! But he is hung up on calories and always asking 'how many calories in this'. I honestly don't know!! I know there are places online that can give that information, but I don't want to duplicate efforts in the event that Susan or others have figured this out. Anyone??

I think most of the recipes can be found on nutritionmd.org - and those recipes do contain the calorie info on them. What I might wonder is why is he concerned about the calorie content? Does he have specific calorie needs - for instance, body builders and long distance runners need LOTS of calories for fuel. --Deb R

Thanks Deb, I'll check that out. He's concerned because he's hung up on eating 'carbs'!! He is a Adkins/South Beach guy and trying to lose weight and worries about that. So I'll check out the website -- and thank you very much!!

So I'll check out the website -- and thank you very much!! What I know of Atkins/South Beach is more carbs than calories. The nutritionmd recipes should list both. But, neither Atkins nor South Beach, to my knowledge (I could be wrong) account for the difference glycemically with whole foods vs. just carb counts. --Deb R

Thanks so much Deb - it does have the calories, etc. Perfect!! He lost weight on Adkins by eating tons of meat, chicken, etc. and no carbs. But of course couldn't maintain it so gained it back. But he still has a 'fear' of carbs, in any form. So I'm hoping that he will lose on this and it will prove me right. Oh well, we'll see, thanks again!!

Oh there are so many people with a fear of carbs nowadays! Darned those fad diets and all that bland white foodstuff so many of our parents raised us on!
