vita mix

I am one of the last hold outs. But I am so sick of my juicer. Big honking thing and it is so hard to clean. I used it a lot when I first got it. But want some of those green smoothies and good juice. So can I use the vita mix the same way? I want one I can throw a whole apple into and have it be juice. Maybe just cut the seeds out.
I have a recipe for juice that is the best.
Celery stalk, full leaf of Romaine lettuce, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 c fresh pineapple, 1/2 apple.
Anyone have a vita mixer and knows if it could handle that?
I know the other stuff about it and it lasts 2 lifetimes. But I don't want to get one if it can't do my juice recipe.
Thank you. Smile

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my VitaMix, but it is not a juicer. It does not separate the juice from the pulp. But your recipe would make an awesome smoothie and YES it could handle your recipe very easily. I use greens, frozen fruit, frozen bananas and soy milk. When I say frozen, I mean rock hard, straight out of the freezer and it just smooths them right in. I put off buying one because of the expense, but it has been worth it. I use it almost every day, sometimes twice a day. I drink a lot more smoothies since I've gotten it because they really are "smooth" and not semi gritty. Even my hubby has learned to like smoothies.

Hope that helps.

I love mine too. I got a "factory reconditioned" one directly from VitaMix--used once or twice at a trade show in a demo, cleaned and put back in the box. Comes with a warranty same as the new ones. You can call their 800 number or search for them on eBay or the "special offer" section of the VitaMix website.

But like Vikki says, they don't do juice unless you strain out the fiber. You can make a thin smoothie though, by adding water.

I really love the soups and fruit "ice creams" you can also do in them. And they grind flax seed, make hummus, etc.

I have a separate Breville juicer, but the VitaMix gets used more.

Hope that helps!

Aleta,

As the others have said, the VM doesn't juice, it just blends it all up into a thick, fibrous drink and yes the VM could take that load!

I was lucky enough to inherit an old 3600 but it is a workhorse and a real gem. Last night dessert was frozen cherries, frozen mango chunks, and a couple of scoops of carob powder with a little water to thin and we had yummy bowls of fruit ice. Actually, we have it quite often!

You might be able to find one one ebay, in the sample models as mentioned above, or another location to bring the price down.

Great investment!

Aleta, thanks for your post. I'm been toying with the idea of buying one myself, but they're so expensive! Hey you Vitamix owners, how noisy are they?

Noisy = loud. I don't know the decibals! But you have to pretty much yell to talk over it! Mine is an old model, so maybe the newer ones are different?

They are pretty loud, because the motor is so powerful. Louder than a typical blender, juicer. But it's worth it to me.

Well that sold me! I HATE to wake up my boys in the morning. I am more than happy to pass off that job to a kitchen appliance! Twisted Evil LOL!!!

Too funny, depending on how close their bedroom is to the kitchen, it WILL wake them up!

Yes I'm sold too. Now if I had one when my boys were in high school I'd had it made on two fronts. Surprised

I just checked on the Vita Mix site and Amazon, and found that used models on Amazon are priced at MORE than the new ones direct from Vita Mix! Weird, huh?
