I'm the worst cook- any ideas how to stay on thi

don't tell me to go to any more recipes. I tried making 4 recipes today and all were gross.

Quiona- so bland
Red cabbage with balsamic and soy - yuck
black bean brownies never cooked all the way through
orange tofu dry and uh...

Now what?

Now you take the foods you already like and veganize them in stages. These are the steps I recommend, but take what works for you and leave the rest.

1) Make a list of your favorite meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
2) For each and every one, look at it and decide what you'd need to do to veganize it. If you can't figure it out, ask here. Smile At first, don't worry about anything but veganizing. Later, you can add whole grains, cut fat, etc.
3) Do the ones that seem easiest first. Some examples:

Spaghetti with vegan marinara sauce instead of meat sauce
Bean burritos with salsa and avocado, but no meat or cheese
Hot cereal with margarine and raw sugar instead of butter and honey

Etc.

I volunteer to help you work on veganizing your list. We can either do it here, or you can email me at serene@serenepages.org.

Don't let anyone make you feel bad for starting where you are. Cooking takes a while to learn; best to make it easy on yourself at first.

I've found that I have more fun with recipes if I put them together like they do on cooking shows. I go through the recipe and assemble the ingredients in order. I even put spices and such in tiny bowls so I can dump them in all together as they are called for in the recipe.

I don't always like everything I cook, but I'm enjoying the process more.

Serene, that was a very generous offer!

New Journey to wellness/frustrations

kcwriter, I know it can be overwhelming and I felt the same way you do..go slow, re invent your favorite recipes, cooking in smaller portions or cutting recipes in half if necessary if you are just cooking for yourself and there will still be enough for another meal, you will definately like some recipes and forget the ones you disliked in no time just keep moving forward towards your new lifestyle.Cooking in smaller batches will help you not feel as you have wasted your energy and $ if you don't like the result or taste..it will be easier to discard w/o quilt.
The important thing to focus on is the beginning of any new journey is not easy , however, the changes in your health, your body and the planet will be so worth the frustration you are going through right now..take the advice and help she is offering you, she was so encouraging and inspiring for me my first time around back in January. Good Luck! Smile
