I plan to be vegan for life. I'm not going to be militant. My path is one of progress not perfection. I believe it is best for me, the planet and the animals to avoid all animal products to the best of my ability. I am married to a wonderful, loving and doting omnivore. He eats less and less meat all the time but still . . . . . This is my third Kickstart and I have enjoyed them all, but it's too bad there isn't an "ongoing" community in addition to the periodic kickstarts. Lots of great info here and I know I'll be back frequently but I think I'm going to pass on another Kickstart. Thanks for all that you offer here. Great info and motivation.

I'm taking it one day at a time, but I love it so far. I suffer from several chronic illnesses, and my body seems to thrive on a the vegan diet! I had no idea that dairy was causing so many of my milder symptoms. I didn't throw out everything in the pantry on day 1, so there are still a few non-vegan foods in the house (sugar-free jello, some salad dressing that contains egg whites, etc.), but once those are gone, I certainly won't be replacing them. In addition to eating vegan, I'm also kicking out most of the processed and packaged foods, mock meats and so forth. It means a lot more time in the kitchen, but I don't have much of a social life, so that's okay. I had no idea that my body could respond to something this quickly, and I'm so glad I decided to try it. I don't know where I'll be a week, month, or year from now, but for today, I love it!

I started my vegan trip last May - Junish. I ate meat on weekends and then decided it wasn't such a treat and quit eating meat all together by July. All summer I enjoyed grilled veggies on our new grill on our new deck. I even learned how to grill tofu. I did a vegan diet with Dr. Barnard's Foods that Fight Pain book years ago. I lost a lot of weight but got overwelmed. The weight came off so fast and I wasn't use to cooking so much. Now it is soooooo much easier with the wealth of vegan information and recipes available online! To be fair...I'm home more and have the luxury of looking over recipes to cook. But I am having a great time. Also, I think I gave up veganism reading articles saying animals don't care if you kill them. Yea, they probably don't have a concept of end of life, but that doesn't mean they are any happier being prey than I would be. So these last 8 or so months have been very happy for me. I can gain or lose weight as I wish, I'm not contributing so much to the suffering of this world, at the end of a year at least 52 chickens will have been removed from the market place, global warming is less AND I am healthier! I think that is a pretty good list of accomplishments. Jean

My journey is not ending because the kickstart is. I did the January one and found the meals so satisfying on all levels. I felt better, I felt better for the animals and I felt better for the planet. I will be this way for the rest of my life. I know that I'll never get my husband to do this and after 20 years it's pretty hard to change the rules but we will both adjust. I find that I'm a pretty good cook after forgetting that for many years! Tonight we are having friends over for tacos and while I do need to cook meat for him the rest of us will have refried beans and revel in the taste. Luckily I have friends that support this--even pushed a little (by good example) to get me where I am today. I hope you all continue to use the forums. I find them so informative and love the contact with like minded people--All on a journey. Rather like Tai Chi and Yoga we never reach perfection.

But this is better for me. My body feels better and I am saving the animals and the environment a bite at a time. I will be back for the next 2d1-day Kickstart cuz I love the support.

I agree! I think they should create a "Kickstart Graduate" forum...just for those of us who want the continued support of other forum members! Maybe they'll think about it!!

That would be great. I don't want to sound like I don't appreciate the kickstarts, because I do. But you can only "start" so many times. This being my 3rd one, I have seen the same questions, issues, etc and I'm just not inclined to do that again in September. That said, I have also learned something new in each kickstart. It would be nice to have something for us Kickstart "Grads" !!

I've thoroughly enjoyed both Kickstarts that I've participated in! My health changes have been dramatic since January: I need just half the insulin I was taking, my neuropathy has greatly improved (so much so, that I hope it will one day just be GONE), and I just have so much more energy. I plan to stay vegan; luckily for me, my husband has joined me in this! I met most of my mini-goals that I set up for this Kickstart. The only goal I couldn't meet was to decrease my insulin more than I had. I might be one of those diabetics who always needs some...time will tell. As I was the first time around, I was really impressed with the quality of posts from other forum members. The forum really makes this Kickstart come alive. Thanks to all at PCRM for this opportunity!

JamieR, reducing your insulin to half the dose in less than 90 days is AWESOME! Being new to the vegan way of eating, this forum has really been helpful to me with recipes, information, and support from other people on the same (or similar) path. I think this forum will continue to stay open, so we can continue to communicate as long as it does. I hope we will!
