Everybody knows

I was wondering...Why is it that everyone who's lost weight thinks they need to write a book? The Dorm Room Diet???? The Engine 2 diet???? This is bizarre!! I've personally lost 53 pounds and have kept it off for almost a decade--Haven't written a book yet though so I guess that should be next on my agenda according to all the other books out there. We get it...YOU lost weight, Whoopie, so have a ton of other people, what makes YOU think You have all the answers? There are getting to be WAY to many Diet books out there, what we need isn't another "brilliant" book with all the same information in it as all the others. What we need is Motivation to put the information that is already out there into action--THIS is the problem-The lack of action NOT the lack of information. Those that read all these books must be confused as ever about how to properly treat themselves. I know I would be.

Yes, a lot of them have similar information. But, I'm unlikely to pick up a book on dorm food (since it's been multi-decades since I lived in a dorm). Likewise, "manly men" (lol) aren't as likely to pick up a book with a willow female yoga instructor on the front, but a firefighter or NFL linebacker? Sure! Just as there are hundreds of shades of blue paint for painting a room, there are lots of "shades" of books about healthy eating, so that each person can find something to relate to and hang on to when the going gets tough.

The ones that I dislike are when they say the opposite of something else - that would totally cause confusion (eat NO grain! eat ONLY grain! etc)

Yeah like Deb says.. My son says he would never consider going vegan. He is a firefighter, police officer and paramedic. I sent him Rips book for Christmas. He thought it was interesting. He did read it. It's not just a vegan book. It's a eat right, feel great, here's how you do it book.

Also my brother in law is a marathon runner.. so i sent him Thrive.. turns out my sister is reading it!

Only you know the path you are on and what makes sense for this place in your life.

Though I don't like misinformation or mass confusion it is helpful to be able to have choices of "help" that work for where you are at that time. In a year or 10 it may not work but it may have just the right thing for you then.

Always offer kindness and a soft word to the beings around you; You do not know their journey. Your words can be the hug they need or the shove that breaks them.

I tend to agree. Who is Daphne Oz besides her famous father's daughter? Her website states she's a Princeton grad but as what..? No where does it state she's an expert in nutrition.

First we had the entire McGraw family in the spotlight (Dr. Phil, Robyn (why?), and the two boys). Now the Oz gang is following suit.

It's a catchy title for uni students who have limited $$ to spend. Let's hope they borrow it from the library if they want to read it.

Well, just the other day, I had to bite my tongue when I overheard one of my co-workers talk about this great new diet book featured in People magazine. The book gives proof that we are protein machines and our bodies can't process carbohydrates. (Basically it's a new Atikins diet by a different author under a different heading.)

I wanted to yell over my cube "is it called the CANCER diet? or the HEART DISEASE diet?" but I kept my mouth shut. Actually, I walked over and appeared interested to get the title of the book. I'll read it and do research to see what they are talking about....

The book is called Why We Get Fat, by Gary Taubes. My library has his prior book, Good Calories/Bad Calories, which I will pick up to see what all the hype is about.

Basically, I'm going to be physical proof that a vegan diet is the healthiest as I continue to lose two pounds a week while eating healthy food. I was previously an overweight vegetarian for 10 years, so I don't preach (hi, I know a lot about health, don't mind this fat here Razz).

So while it is a slight aside to everyone losing weight writing books, I think it's also annoying seeing a diet book come out with "scientific research" to support every eating style under the sun. No wonder everyone is confused about what to eat.
