RE: Mary's Mini

Mary's mini is intended to be a short-term plan-within-the-plan, for quicker weight-loss, during which time you limit the food you eat to just one (sometimes two) starches for each meal of the day. So you might have oil-free hash browns for breakfast with a vegetable (greens maybe, or onions and peppers). Then maybe mashed potatoes with veg and beans for lunch and baked potatoes with veg for dinner. It is up to you how you prepare the starch, but it is recommended younstick with just one for the most part. The idea, as I understand it, is that after a couple of days, you get a bit bored with the lack of variety and you eat less, overall. You still get well rounded nutrition, but you are limiting the variety and choices. I have done a mini for a couple of days, tops. Many people do it for 3 or 5 or 10 or more days. McDougall is a vegan, but starch based lifestyle. So, each meal has some starch as the base (grains, potatoes, squash, rice, oatmeal, etc) plus a good portion of green and yellow veg. Plus, it allows for no added fats or oils, so it is quite low fat (approximate 10% of total calories). If you want to know more, you can go to the McDougall website which I think is www.mcdougall.com. Info is free and the message boards are full of great information.
