mushrooms, vegan or no?

This is such a great community, and as I'm learning more about veganism I feel I'm actually expanding upon my own compassion..towards myself and others. wonder if you can relate, if you've been vegan for awhile =)

Well, I have been hearing mixed things about mushrooms. Some people say it is classified scientifically as more of an 'animal' than plant...others say its fungus, it eats other living things since it is a 'decomposer' whatever that means, my biology classes are long behind me!

I personally see mushrooms in the vegetables / produce section of my local supermarkets, so I'd assume they are okay...and they don't seem to be sentient beings, capable of pain...nor is it a product that comes FROM an animal. In any case I'd love to get other's input.

Mushrooms definately fall into the plant catagory. Any plant which grows takes nutrients from the soil, water, air, and sun in order to grow! That doesn't make them animal! Yes, it makes them living, but not in the same way that animals are living beings.
