What was she thinking?

I know this isn't a political forum, but since some of us once celebrated Clinton's vegan announcement, I figured I can copy and paste this tidbit from The Ticket on Yahoo!:

Quote:

Michele Bachmann poses with dead meat in Iowa

In her quest for votes in Iowa, Michele Bachmann visited a Des Moines meat-packing plant today, where she was photographed touring a locker of hanging beef carcasses.

This particular photo op will no doubt go down as one of the more unusual campaign events of the 2012 primary. But The Ticket couldn't help noticing Bachmann's shoes: a pair of open-toed high heels. That's probably not the best choice of footwear when touring a chilly locker full of raw meat--but then again, the decision to allow the candidate to be photographed surrounded by dead meat probably wasn't a wise choice, either.

Trust me, the picture is gross. And no, the open toed shoes don't help. Ick. Ick. Ick. Iiick.

Oh I hope this doesn't turn into a political forum. Exclamation

Well, as long as folks are civil and respectful I don't see the problem. Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, food laws and regulations are political issues and I think it could be informative to know what stance each potential presidential candidate has as it pertains to these issues running up to the election. In the case of this candidate, following the announcement that the Agriculture Dept. would be increasing testing for E. Coli in meat, Michelle Bachmann stated that the food industry is already over-regulated. She sees increased testing as complicated, expensive and "overkill". For myself this indicates to me that Ms. Bachmann is more interested in easing costs for corporations than she is in making sure that the food offered to Americans to eat is healthy and safe.

Yes, you would think with the spate of tainted food cases we have had over the past few years - veg and non-veg - the importance of FDA inspection budgets & regulations would be something everyone could agree on.

I want to think that everything I eat is safe to eat and safe to feed to my family.

Every time we hear about another food recall, or the annual tips on avoiding cross contamination during BBQ season, hubby and I just look at each other and grin. No worries about cross contamination when there's no raw meat involved. Fewer (though not zero) worries about contaminated veggies when most of what we're buying is fresh local produce (not the factory farmed packaged versions).

I can't help but wonder why open toed high heels were even allowed in that photo op - it's against OSHA and health dept regulations.

Tina

I'm having dinner with the Bachmanns this weekend. I'll try and talk some sense into her.

Thank you! And tell her next time wear a hair net and safety shoes with non-slip soles. She's lucky she didn't slip in some blood and break her neck!
