Question about meters
Posted Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:35 AM

HELP!

My glucose levels have risen lately, with no changes in diet or exercises. This morning, I am smelling a rat. My best friend (my meter) may have betrayed me. Using FreeStyle Freedom Lite most of the time, and since I started on a new batch of test strips, the readings have gone up.

I have an alternate meter - OneTouch UltraMini, so I am checking the two against each other. They diverge by 10 or more points, in the tests I've run last evening and today.

What would you do? I am willing to purchase a 3rd meter, if anyone recommends something more reliable.

Frankly, I was ready to dump vegan eating in disgust, but it worked so well for me until recently. Tossing baby out with the bath water is not the way to go.

No way! My instinct is to say that you got a bad batch of test strips. It's happened to me before. Do you have a bottle of test solution you can run the meter tests with? The kind that came with your meter?

Also, it helped me to be really conscious of what I was eating late at night, before bed. I love midnight snacks, especially carb-heavy ones, but they make my morning readings skyrocket. Crying or Very sad

I make sure my meter is giving accurate readings by testing before my quarterly A1C test. Lucky for me, my readings are extremely close. Is it possible for you to have a lab do blood work and check your reading against theirs?

Look at the batch number and use a different batch of strips. If you must check them against the other batch. Bad batches happen. Rule them out first esp if your second meter is that far off. We have had several that wouldn't even work.
