Shopping List
Posted Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 9:56 AM
I printed out the entire shopping list but have been a bit stymied by the lack of organization. Instead of having a list that prints out the ingredients by day and meal, I wish we had a list that would print out the correct quantities of items needed by type, so under a category called Fruits it would read: 4 over ripe bananas, 4 garlic cloves and another category called Spices it would read: curry powder, etc.. and that for just a few days at once. I've been shopping twice now and am still missing things.

That is a very good idea... Susan, are you listening? I imagine that there are so many things to do it is hard to know where to start without setting priorities, and I assume PCRM has done the best they can, but it would be a good idea. Database experts could set it up so you could print by day, by week, by food type, and even any change in recipes would be automatically absorbed into the power of having it set up that way. Here's hoping it can be done. - madeline

This would be excellent. I spend so many hours doing this prep work for each kickstart.

We tried it that way at first. But we received complaints that it was then impossible to know what NOT to buy if you didn't want to make every recipe. Since most people do not make every recipe, we decided on the segregation approach, where people can pick and choose what recipes interest them most and then do their own addition. I understand both perspectives!

JavaGen, I had the same problem. I solved it by just making up my own shopping list the next time around. I had all this fresh in the house and was confusing both myself and my husband! I also found that for a family of only two, I did not need all those ingredients so that was another good reason to make my own list based on how much of each recipe I was going to make (make whole recipe and freeze or use for leftovers or just make enough for one meal)

But what about having the database set up so you can choose by recipe, by week, only certain recipes, etc?

I'll ask the more tech-savvy folks here. Sounds like a good idea!

Cool! Thanks! I've also utilized many recipe sites where you can change the number of servings.
