PCRM's guide to weight loss
Posted Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 10:33 PM
If I follow this and I am working out with weights and cardio, will this be enough food? It calls out for 1500 cals a day and checking off the things you eat (veggies are free :wink Just wondering

Hey Madcat, Where are you seeing this "Guide to Weight Loss"? I'm not familiar with it. PCRM usually doesn't recommend calorie-counting, as far as I know.

http://www.pcrm.org/health/prevmed/weightloss.html I found it in the FAQ section under the health tab. It's really not saying to count calories but they list number of servings and if you consume everything they put on the list you come out to about 1500.

If you follow that guide, you will be eating a low-fat, vegan diet. You will get enough calories if you eat until you are satisfied. For most of us, when we work out, we're hungrier, so our bodies tell us to eat more. And that's fine when eating this way! The serving numbers are really suggestions, and 1500 calories is an average amount of calories for weight loss. Note that the legumes and vegetables say "at least" the recommended amount of servings. I'd put whole fruit and whole grains in that category too. Summary: don't worry about counting the calories. Focus on eating whole plant foods and watch the fat.

Wow, thanks for that link! I haven't really explored those articles too much, but that is a really good one. And of course, Susan is spot-on in her recommendation.

I think the biggest thing is getting past all of the bad information that we have learned in the past and getting a little out of our comfort zone. @ Susan, Thanks again @ MollyHorn, I kept digging and have found so much great info and I love NutritionMD.Org.
