Type 2 diabetic on pump
Posted Monday, July 1, 2013 at 5:00 PM

I have a question to whomever can answer....I started eating plant based a couple of days ago and seen the challenge....I am concerned about sugars going to low being on pump...yesterday I went down to 50 which was very low...if I just pump in the carb count for meal will I be ok? I have a doctors apt in two days to adjust due to this wonderful plan...any suggestions?

You should absolutely be in close contact with your physician as you change over to this healthful diet! You don't want your sugars to go too low nor do you want them to go too high as you adjust your medications. I can't emphasize enough the importance of asking your personal physician how to handle the medication needs!

Also...

Sometimes carb-to-insulin ratios change with a switch to a low-fat vegan diet, so work closely with your health care provider. Keep good records of what you are eating, the quantities, and your basal and bolus dose to discuss with clinician.
