Has anyone here noticed a difference from a vegan diet in Lupus flares, RA pain, Fibromyalgia symptoms or other autoimmune diseases?

You may find some information on NutritionMD about diet's role in all of these conditions.

For example, fibromyalgia, http://www.nutritionmd.org/health_care_providers/bone_joint_diseases/fibromyalgia_nutrition.html, and lupus, http://www.nutritionmd.org/health_care_providers/howto_allergy/lupus_nutrition.html.

Hey whispercat,
I don't have Lupus, but do have Hashimoto's, Sjogren's syndrome, Hypogonadism, and pancreatitis/gallbladder disease. I've noticed that when I stick to the low-fat, whole foods vegan lifestyle, I definitely feel healthier. My body definitely needs its complex carbs! Razz When I eat a lot of sugar, grease, or dairy products, my body is NOT happy and I get increased inflammation and pain.

That's my 2 cents! Wink

I have fibromyalgia and have had it before it was reclassified as an autoimmune disease. When it was diagnosed, I was told to get psychotherapy! Smile

That said, my daughter was the one who picked on the fact that whenever I consumed even minute amounts of dairy (I was vegetarian at that time) I had symptoms, and the symptom's severity was related to the amounts of dairy.

For a few years after that I "saved" dairy for a "special" treat. Then one day I realized that what I was "rewarding" myself with was PAIN! (I can be a slow learner!)

Now I am very strict as to dairy, meat consumption has not an option for over 21 years. Celiac disease has taught me that my body is very sensitive to what I eat and acts out in all sorts of difficult ways if I eat something not approved!

Best wishes

Kym

Thanks, Molly. I have sjorgrens, reynauds, and livedo reticularis, all of which often accompany Lupus, though I haven't been tested for Lupus. I also have a lot of joint pain and my bones tend to break easily so I try not to do that, LOL.

OceanDog, thank you, too. I had to laugh as I must be a slow learner, too. I noticed that a lot of my headaches and joint aches actually got better during the KickStart, but last weekend I not only ate whatever I wanted to help my hubby celebrate his birthday, we went for a long hike on a sunny day and now I am in a lot of pain again, have suffered a 3 day cluster head ache, depression, etc.

That's why I was wondering if anyone else had good results with vegan eating since I don't know if it was the sun or going off diet that caused the flare of the lupus that I don't actually have Laughing

Hah, wow. I wonder if I'd do well to try a wheat-free diet for a while. Might not hurt as an experiment...
