anemic - need suggestions
Posted Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11:49 AM

Hi,

I was just told that I am anemic. I have Barnard's Brain book from the library now - haven't read that whole thing, but know that too much iron is a bad thing. Any suggestions of what to eat to get the iron count up quickly? I have some kale with a little barley and other veggies on the stove right now....

There are lots of ways to enhance iron absorption from dietary sources. Take a look at this list of ideas: http://www.nutritionmd.org/health_care_providers/hematology/ironanemia_nutrition.html.

Depending on how low your iron levels are, you may need to take a supplement briefly. Talk to your physician about options that are best for you!

Be sure you know what type of anemia you have. Not all anemia is related to low iron intake.

Great point Kandoo. I assumed iron deficiency anemia. But knowing is better!
