happy May, and sick / stomach pain from milk =(

Hope everyone has a good start to the month.

Just feel frustrate, I had been given dairy milk the other day in my coffee. took a sip and knew from the taste it was not a non-dairy milk like i'd asked.

the weird thing is that i had a lot of stomach / GI distress. but pre-vegan this kind of pain or discomfort had not happened with milk. i guess if one avoids dairy long enough, one can become lactose-intolerant?

so yes, not feeling well, both physically and emotionally - it's hard to keep inspired when so many around me are not vegan. can anyone relate? how do you handle the feeling of isolation?

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well Sad

There's lots of online support if you don't have many (or any) other vegans in your immediate circle of family and friends.

This discussion forum is a great place to start - everyone here is so welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. I found this forum to be very helpful for me when I was first starting out.

There are also lots of other online vegan "hubs" that you might want to check out:

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau has a fantastic podcast series - when I was a brand-new vegan, I found a lot of useful information and inspiration from these podcasts. It felt kind of like getting really good advice and information from an older sister or a good friend.

Alicia Silverstone has a site called "The Kind Life".

If you're interested in sports (or just being active), you might like the discussion forum on the nomeatathlete.com website:
http://community.nomeatathlete.com/Discussions/tabid/95/Default.aspx

There are also lots of vegan-themed groups on Facebook.

You might also want to look at vegan groups/associations in your city. You might be surprised - there are lots of vegan groups in cities of all sizes. Or if you can't find anything, you could possibly even start one. It can be really great to have a sense of community.

If there are any vegetarian/vegan restaurants in your city, you could also ask the staff if they know of any local groups.

Anyway, I hope this list helps - and I hope you feel better soon! Smile

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.

I find this forum helps a lot. As does the Engine 2 forum (http://engine2extra.com). There's a small fee for the Engine 2 forum but it's well worth it.

I think the president of the Vegetarian Society of DC is an Indian vegan. He may be able to give you some good advice specific to Indian culture. Perhaps contact their headquarters and ask if you can speak to him: vsdc@vsdc.org http://www.vsdc.org/keyvolunteers.html.

I hope you feel better soon.

My goodness, what I wouldn't give to not have any vegans around me. Enjoy it while it lasts, Kittens.
