Vegan Websites

I know the Kickstart hasn't officially started yet, but I thought it might be fun to start a thread for people to share vegan websites.

Of course, I am a huge fan of SusanV's Fat-Free Vegan website.

One interesting one that I've been following is food editor Grant Butler's vegan journey on the Oregonian's website. He tested going vegan in February, and decided to stay with it. He isn't always healthy, but his vegan articles are always a good read. Going Vegan

September Kickstart Goals: Walk/bike daily, keep up with forum, 100% low-fat vegan experimenting with maximizing FLAVOR!

Yes that's is a good idea. If we could get that list going so we could just go and click...so easy.
Thanks.

What a great idea!!! There have been similar threads now and then on the boards but I don't think that there was one that was dedicated to blogs.
Love the idea!
Here are a cpl of my faves...
Fat Free Vegan IS at the top of my list but she was listed already.
Vegan Dad is great and has really helped my husband see that this is a manly thing to do too Wink

Ya know, this might help some of you out a little more. It's a directory to Vegan Blogs, not all of them but it is a starting point.

I like the website called Vegetarians in Paradise located at www.vegparadise.com because it rates products and it seems to be accurate for me. Their Veggie Taster rating system uses birds. The more birds they give, the more they like the product. They also give enough information about why they did or did not like something that I can make my own decision. It has saved me money by cutting down on my "mistake" purchases.

This is a fun site. They are cooking their way through the Betty Crocker cookbook...vegan-izing all the recipes. Great pictures and lots of fun to read. The recipes are all vegan and delicious!![url]http://www.meettheshannons.net/p/betty-crocker-project.html

These aren't blogs, but are some great websites, movies, and other miscellaneous motivators I've accumulated. I hope they help you, too.

These films are available on Netflix, and are all great:

http://www.killeratlarge.com/ (public health)
http://www.thefutureoffood.com/ (GMOs, factory farms, and more)

Scroll down and press the play button to watch Dr. John McDougall discuss "The Perils of Dairy." Really eye-opening! http://www.vegsource.com/news/2009/12/the-perils-of-dairy-video.html

Scroll down and press the play button to watch Dr. Neal Barnard discuss physically addictive foods. http://www.vegsource.com/news/2010/01/chocolate-cheese-meat-sugar-physically-addictive-foods.html

This one is long, but SO good. "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM

Peter Jennings report on public health, obesity and the like. Very, very good. http://www.vegan.com/blog/2010/07/26/peter-jennings-how-to-get-fat-without-really-trying/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+vegandotcomrss+%28Vegan.com+Blog%29

Geez, I could go on with these for days. Embarassed I'll stop now.

I seem to be a collector of Vegan web sites recently! Smile

There's a magazine that is now Vegan (formally vegetarian) and they have a great Web site:

http://vegnews.com/web/home.do

They are also the ones that host the iPhone app - Vegan Recipes - awesome resource!

and one that helps with finding Veg restaurants in your neighborhood:
http://www.happycow.net/

I just discovered this one today:

http://www.vegsource.com/

And this one is great because it kinda searches the Web for new Vegan blog postings.

http://www.findingVegan.com/

What I've found is I start with pages like these and they kind of become like following the rabbit through the hole and other places. One thing leads to another and another and another!

I hope these help! Smile

This is totally nitpicking, so forgive me. Embarassed
Vegnews is still just vegetarian. They have vegan recipes and a lot of vegan content, but their factsheet says "vegetarian lifestyle magazine". However, I agree that their website is indeed awesome!

Thank you, Molly (from one to another!)

Hi Molly! Smile I didn't meet another Molly until I was a junior in high school (and sigh..being 44, that was a while ago so...) I'm Molly Kathleen and I love having this name and sharing it with you! You have offered such wonderful advice and encouragement and I thank you so much for that! Smile I love seeing your posts as they are so educational!

I actually just found VegNews magazine with their 10th anniversary issue this past summer. They posted on their editor's page that "After 10 years, we are thrilled to announce that VegNews is officially going vegan! Of course all of our content is, and always has been, 100 percent plant based but our cover now proclaims it loud and proud." Isn't it awesome to have these resources and not have to say - well, if I sub out this maybe I can make this recipe? They're now designed with us vegans in mind. Sigh...such a help to this new vegan girl! Smile And even Vegetarian Times has a ton more vegan recipes than before. I'm so happy to be joining in at such an exciting time where vegans are part of the hip happening crowd and not some little fringe group off to the side - well, we still have a long way to go but... Smile

Thank you again for everything Molly and please do keep sharing! I am learning so much from you and I'm truly grateful for the time you put into this site!

Very Happy

That is great news! I guess they just have not updated their fact sheet yet – but probably soon will. Or perhaps they just use the term "vegetarian" inclusively.

Either way, you're absolutely right – it is great news! Very Happy Thanks for all the kind words, and I look forward to hearing more from you, as well.

Dino Sarma provides interesting podcasts on vegan cooking Indian style (India). Learn how to make great soups by first popping your whole spices and much more. He will open a whole new world of spice options and cooking flexibility to anyone with the time to heed his advice. I have had great fun with his techniques.
