What is your food today Fri Jan 28th?
Posted Friday, January 28, 2011 at 7:36 AM

Well yipee it's FRIDAY!!I like my job.. but the one thing i like better is spending the days with my husband..
Just a couple of days ago he declared to my mom and me that he is a Hegan.. haa haahttp://www.boston.com/lifestyle/food/articles/2010/03/24/men_leave_their_own_mark_on_veganism/

men in their 40s and 50s embracing a restrictive lifestyle to look better, rectify a gluttonous past, or cheat death. They are hegans. They are healthy. And they are here to stay. While no one was looking, guys were stepping up to the wheatgrass bar... (of course i added sexy to that definition!! it's true and it helps...)

it is an interesting article.

so today.. is just a normal day..
I find i really liked the Mexican Corn Salad that i made a few days ago..

b-cereal..
l-bean pattie & the rest of mexican corn salad..
d-whatever my sexy little hegan dreams up..
s-hegan delight

Laughing do you guys have anything fun planned for the weekend??? we have already started planning for a superbowl party.. informed people the food will be vegan... so far so good.

b: oatmeal with cinnamon, agave, raisins and almond milk
l: black bean patty (no bun), ketchup, homemade pickles, veggie slaw
d: mock tuna wraps - navy and garbanzo beans pulsed in the food pro until 'tuna' texture, mix in celery and onion, and today hubby is going to experiment with a navy-bean based mayo substitute; wrapped in homemade whole wheat tortillas and topped with greens (spinach, beet greens, whatever)
s: banana

Super Bowl wise, we go to an annual party at a friend's house, potluck style. So, we're planning to bring chili queso with chips using hubby's veggie chili and the not-cheese sauce.

Nice that this thread is still going Smile.

Morning: smoothie with frozen banana, light soy milk, carob powder, flaxseeds (golden ones this time), date, honey, and ice.
Mid-Morning: 2 slices whole grain sprouted bread with honey and a drizzle of sesame seed paste
Afternoon: sweet and tangy Indian (???) cauliflower and green beans with chickpeas, served over whole grain couscous
Evening: Big salad with chopped BBQ seitan and BBQ sauce/balsamic vinegar dressing; mashed potatoes
Snacks: whole grain pretzels and dried fruit (1 serving of each)

Bought some gorgeous and small (which is rare) green and red cabbage so I plan on making a nice big pot of sweet and sour cabbage with kidney beans to serve over whole grains. Should last me for 4-5 days (since I'm single and don't have a family to feed Very Happy).

Hegans. I like that. Laughing

My big plans for the weekend include going to Outback for dinner tonight (baked potato and steamed veggies without butter or oil for me! And a beer...) then we're getting pedicures. Girl's night out.

Tomorrow... playing video games on my new PS3. I'm a bit of a geek... Rolling Eyes\

So, today. Still doing Mary's mini (though wasn't too strict about it this week). I did manage to lose a couple of pounds during the 5 days, so I'm happy with that.

b: hash browns with broccoli (ran out of spinach), no oil.

s: nothing! Didn't have time. And I'm hungry now.

l: baked potato topped with lots of veggies, and about 1/2 cup of split pea soup.

s: not sure. I have a lovely apple and a banana.

d: see above. Don't forget the Nut Brown Ale!

B: cinnamon raisin oatmeal
L: black bean patty, green salad
D: leftover Asian soup, salad or steamed veggies

Does anyone know what the vitamix diet is? My daughter went back to college and was asking? I know about the machine (which I don't have), just wondered if there was a specific menu?

Hi,

Good to know you are still all out there. I am having oatmeal for breakfast sweetened with a brown rice syrup instead of sugar. Lunch - don't know yet. It will be some sort of veggies as I am having lunch at my Moms.

Dinner - I don't know yet. Probably a wholemeal wrap with whatever fillings I have in the refrigerator.

By the way my Mom is 83 and still loves to cook for the family. She has always cooked my food away from the meat the rest of the family eats and respects that I was vegetarian but becoming vegan may be a little more of a challenge for her, as eggs and cheese are often in recipes she cooks. I think my solution will be to take some ingredients and leave there (like Orgran vegan gravy mix) so its on hand.

I can hear someone suggesting I cook and take food to her but you dont know my Mom. She is not Italian but could be in the kitchen. She still wants to cook for her family and is lucky enough to be healthy enough to do it.

I believe I have eating at home sorted. It's eating out thats my challenge and what I need to work on.

we're doing wraps too - hubby should even now be making up the 'tunot' or 'mock tuna' and getting ready to make the flour to make the tortillas

Maybe you and mom can do a little shopping trip sometime so she can see where in the market certain things are and then she'll have them there at her house without you transporting it(your 'treat' of course) or she'll know where to find them if she runs out and she's planning to have you over to dinner. I love grocery shopping with a friend if there's no time constraint - time to chit chat and explore new/different foods (because invariably someone else's 'everyday' food has something new to me and vice versa).

Thanks for the suggestion re shopping trip. We often do garden centre trips together and have a lot of fun - don't know why I didnt think of a grocery trip.

I have also just completed the kickstart survey and signed up for the April kickstart. Already looking forward to it.

I took a vacation day from work today to work on my house (improvement projects!) and have a long weekend. So I haven't done much cooking today. So glad I have a ton of leftover lasagna from last night because I ate it for lunch and plan on having more for dinner in a few minutes!

B - van's frozen waffles with pure maple syrup
L - leftover vegan lasagna
snack: slice of whole wheat bread with natural peanut butter and banana
Dinner - leftover vegan lasagna. Soo good I'm not bored! Haha

BTW DS (12 yrs old) actually had seconds on the mock tuna wraps! The "beanaise" came out well too, so we'll be using that for other things (cole slaw for example).

I went grocery shopping and checked with him to see if he wanted me to buy more tuna for him. He said "as long as we have the not-tuna, I'm fine, don't need more tuna" Good thing we bulk ordered garbanzos and white beans at the co-op!

That sounds great Pippin: baked potato topped with lots of veggies, and about 1/2 cup of split pea soup.
