The Baby Made Me Do It

Dear All

Have any of you ever had cravings for healthy foods whilst pregnant ?? Maybe that's why you did the Kickstart. Because your baby wanted to do it.

Anyone ??

I'm WAY past the age of pregnancy, but I love the idea of that little sprout starting out early telling Mom, "I don't want any junk, I want to start life HEALTHY. AND I want my Mom to be healthy, too!"

I'm way past the baby thing too. Just had my 50th birthday 4 days ago. I have moved on to fur-children (2 dogs).

But interesting topic as the following research has just come out -

Mum's diet key to baby health:
Expectant mothers' diets could be creating an obesity timebomb for their unborn children, a groundbreaking study involving New Zealand scientists has revealed. The study of 300 children has shown for the first time that what a woman eats and drinks during her pregnancy can alter her child's DNA. That change can determine whether her child will grow up to be obese, and can even increase the risk of a child getting diabetes or heart disease later in life.

Well, I'm sure it does happen.

After all, foetuses are one of the few sectors of society that junk food companies haven't figured out how to advertise to. So their choices would be a lot more objective I think.

They also don't have to put up with any ignorant comments about their diet from their peers. Unless their a twin I guess.

When I was pregnant with DS, I craved chocolate chip mint ice cream. Rarely craved salad or veggies - mostly because even though I wasn't veg*n at the time, I was eating lots of veggies and beans and such anyhow (beans, rice, and tomato sauce with some seasoning was a regular meal back then because it was cheap! We called it Rice-a-Beanie Laughing )

Deb, I'm with you, I craved Mexican food when I was pregnant, especially jalapenos. My son was never a picky eater.
