Got my menus all figured out
Posted Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 2:16 AM

I posted a pretty long post about my menu plans at my blog (http://serenecooking.livejournal.com/). It was fun (and a bit of work) to come up with the menus, but I plan to just use them again every three weeks, with changes to anything my family finds yucky, so I figure it's time well spent and I won't have to do it again. Three weeks is a manageable time frame, and I can't imagine getting tired of any particular dinner if we're only eating it once every 21 days.

Do you guys plan it all ahead, or just wing it?

Boy you are really organized! I wish I knew how to do a blog and provide so much information like you have. Nice!

Thank you, Susan, and thank you so much for the videos. I know you guys worked hard on them, and they're already getting me all pumped up.

I've been eating vegan, clumsily and probably inadequately nutrition wise, but I'm hanging in there.

I live alone so am mostly preparing meals alone and so need to be better at planning and preparing meals. That's why I am doing this Kickstart.

I liked what you said about every 3 weeks doing a similar or same menu plan.
I'd like to copy cat what you are doing. I went to your site but couldn't find the menu plan you posted.

And I also am sure I need to do some freezing and need tips there, too, since I would like to avoid using plastics. Any ideas.

You are defintely an accomplished cook from what I read on your site. But I'll still try to follow your lead.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have or others may have.

I like the idea of this forum. I think it may be the most helpful part of this Kickstart.

Hey, pat yourself on the back. You're doing fine, and you're certainly eating better than most people in the country, so don't be too hard on yourself.

Oh, sorry about that. Here's a more direct link: http://serenecooking.livejournal.com/71289.html#cutid1

I mostly don't freeze much stuff, but when I do, I do use plastics or aluminum, which I know some people avoid, too. The main thing with plastic, I think, is not to heat it.

Thanks. It takes time. I've been cooking for 40 years, and 20 of those, I was a vegetarian. I wasn't born knowing how to cook. Smile

I'm with you! I love this.

My biggest suggestion for you would be to keep it simple at first, and only try new recipes on days when you feel like the challenge. Maybe one day a week you're usually home and puttering around your house? Or maybe there's an evening when you don't have to get up early in the morning? I'd pick one of those downtimes to just play around with something that caught your eye, cookingwise (either to go shop for it, or cook it, or whatever). Keep it as fun as you can, or cooking and eating will become a chore and you'll just go back to what's comfy again.

Also, there's a blog out there that's a hundred times better than mine, and I don't mind saying so: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com. Give that one a shot if you want some wonderful ideas along with some AMAZING photos.
