Excited to start tomorrow and intro

Registered Dietitian who is not even a vegetarian here Smile - looking forward to this, even more now that my oldest daughter (12) has decided to join me.

I have debilitating arthritis (non-oseto) that is finally under control (read: lots of meds) so am finally getting back into exercising after taking several months (ahem, much of a year) just to enjoy life while being able to move. This is the perfect opportunity to overhaul, especially as I am starting (with Dr. supervision) to play with some of my meds to see if I can find stability at lower levels.

Many of the foods I eat when NOT family meals are already mostly vegetarian/vegan, so my main issue will be finding foods I can make that my daughter will eat with me for evening meals. The bounty of squash left over from my summer garden is unfortunately not going to figure in her diet!

My husband (whose Dad was a Dairy Extension Specialist) is not interested, though he and my younger two daughters will be eating some of the side dishes. My 9 year old dislikes most meat already, so I hope she will be more adventurous this January as well.

Good luck, Michelle!

My mom went mostly vegan in May when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and I got her the PCRM book "Healthy Eating for Life to Prevent and Treat Cancer." (She made a full and very speedy recovery after surgery, by the way). But the bonus was that when she changed her diet her arthritis almost disappeared. It flares up now only when she occasionally eats dairy! Go figure.

Maybe that will be true for you too.

Welcome and I hope this way of eating will help relieve your arthritis pain.

Shana - that is just wonderful about your mom. I know how horrible it is when your parent has cancer. Good luck to you and your mom.
