Coffee and Wine

The webcast did not address coffee and wine in "what's out." Should I or shouldn't I. I need to loose weight.

Hi bmcg -

I believe the goal of this kickstart is to keep your diet as "pure" as possible.

We had the coffee debate when I started the Kickstart last January and some of us decided we were unprepared to give up our one or two cups of coffee per day although I ensure I use Silk in my coffee (no cream!) and a little agave nectar.

Wine, if you're trying to lose weight, is another story altogether. I guess it also depends on how much wine you enjoy on a daily basis.

Why not strike a balance and keep the coffee, lose the wine - for now. Very Happy

All we are saying is "Give Peas a Chance"

I won't give up my morning coffee and have used Silk creamer for quite awhile instead of half-and-half. I also have a single glass of dry red wine most evenings with dinner. I enjoy it and look forward to it ... and really, giving up all of the other things I am giving up right now is enough change for the moment, so I will stick with my moderate coffee and wine consumption.

Don't make a New Year's Resolution...make a Decision!

I haven't given up either one, and did well at loosing about 65 pounds and keeping off for over a year now. As others have said, everything in moderation. To me, coffee and wine are a couple of the simple pleasures in life Wink

I gave up wine MANY years ago... I gave up diet soda in February .. I REFUSE to give up my coffee Shocked Inspite of three or four cups a day I have lost 48 lbs - droped my blood pressure and reversed my diabetes... I say try stay as pure in the diet as you possible can but if coffee is all you are sneaking on you are doing a good job!

I didn't plan to give up coffee or wine but one day about three months ago I just looked at my coffee and thought "Why am I drinking this?" and that was it. I haven't missed it one bit but I do green tea, iced during this hot summer and am sure will do a cup or so hot in the winter. I'm sure not caffeine free.

Wine too hasn't much of a pull anymore but a cold beer a couple times a week on these hot afternoons, I can't resist.

Something to consider down the road perhaps - studies show that for women one drink a day raises the risk of breast cancer. Keep it less than three times a week to reduce your risk Smile

Let me throw a real zing into the picture! Forget calories and health related issues. Really serious about going vegan? Do you know that all wine is not vegan? Sure threw me for a loop! How could crushed grapes not be vegan? Many wines are "fined" using something called isinglass. It's the dried air bladders of fish! Other common fining agents are egg whites, sea shells, and gelatin. Check your wineries and brewers here:

About 2 years ago I realized I was re-warming my coffee to death and still pouring half of it out. I just quit making it and haven't missed it. Pretty surprising since at one point I drank 3-4 huge mugs a day. Just lost interest for some reason. Be nice if the same thing happened to my red wine.
