Nut are fine to have. They are packed full of plant based essential fatty acids, which are good for your heart-among many other things and do provide some protien and fiber. So continue to have them periodically in there natural state or as natural spreads on toast or with a sliced apple. But don't try to make them your main source of protien they can be high in calories.

Nuts are a great source of healthy fat. Do you need to gain weight? If you're trying to lose weight DO NOT EAT NUTS. Even if you're at a healthy weight you should limit all fatty foods (nuts, seeds, their butters, olives, avocado, oils). There are plenty of natural fats in whole foods (like oatmeal) and you don't need to supplement your diet with them to excess, which is how must people eat them.

I agree with Loni. Avocados, olive oil, nuts, seeds contain the good fats that are heart healthy. But everything in moderation. Don't make them the mainstay of your diet; but eat in moderation. I went vegan a couple of years ago and lost 55 pounds while eating avocados, olive oil, nuts and seeds on a daily basis. Movement is key too. There is no such thing as the perfect diet for everyone - we all have to do trial and error and see how we feel after eating. Good luck to you and enjoy your journey.
